Stephen was born and raised in Fond du Lac where his father and the late Russell Witt founded the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and served a four-year stint in the US Army, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. He graduated from the Indiana College of Mortuary Science in 1971.

Stephen is a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, the Wisconsin Funeral Directors Association and the Fox River Valley Funeral Directors Association where he was also a board member.

He is active in community affairs as a member and past president of the Lakeside Evening Kiwanis Club, member and former board member of the Fond du Lac YMCA, member of Trier-Puddy American Legion Post #75 and Chairman of Badger Boys State, and a member of of Bohlman-Grimes Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1904. He is a trombonist in the Fond du Lac Symphonic Band and member of the Symphonic Band Advisory Board

He is a member of the Holy Family Parish.
