Eugene J. Newton

Eugene J. Newton, 78, of Fond du Lac, died Saturday, April 7, 2018 at his residence. He was born May 23, 1939 in Fond du Lac, the son of Nile and Alice Mengel Newton. Eugene served in the US Marine Corps from 1958 – 1962. On July 28, 1962 he married Alice M. Eggers at St. Louis Catholic Church in Fond du Lac. He worked for 38 years at Giddings & Lewis, retiring in 2000. Eugene was a member of Sons of Zebedee, St. James and St. John, Knights of Columbus, and the G& L Old Timers Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, bee keeping, old tractors, watching westerns, and painting through Bob Ross’ classes.



He is survived by his wife, Alice; five children, Eugene “Gene” Newton of North Fond du Lac, Julie (John) Schmidt of Fond du Lac, Michael (Debra) Newton of Oakfield, Allen Newton of Fond du Lac, and Daniel (Shelly) Newton of New Berlin; eleven grandchildren, Rebecca and Ryan Newton, Jeff, Justin, and Jessica (fiancé, Joey Stark) Schmidt, Mikayla and Tanner Newton, Matthew, Logan, Aiden, and Jackson Newton; one great grandson, Easton Schmidt. He is further survived by four siblings, Charlene (Paul) Gau of Fond du Lac, Dale Newton of Rosendale, Kenneth (Mary) Newton of Oakfield, and Kathy Beltezore of Fond du Lac; sisters-in-law, Diane Newton and Sue Eggers, both of Fond du Lac; brothers-in-law, William Eggers and Hubert Eggers, both of Fond du Lac; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Hubert and Edna Eggers; brother, Gary Newton; sister-in-law, Patty Newton; brothers-in-law, Robert Beltezore and Edward Eggers.



The visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and again on Saturday from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at church.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Sons of Zebedee, St. John’s Church in Byron. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.



In lieu of flowers, memorials in Eugene’s name are appreciated to Sons of Zebedee, St. James and St. John.
