John D. Dow

April 28, 1932 — February 9, 2018

John D. Dow, 85, of Fond du Lac, died Friday, February 9, 2018 at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born April 28, 1932 in Omaha, NE, the son of Birname and Anita (Geise) Dow. John attended Milwaukee Public Schools and graduated from Boys Tech in 1950. He pursued a trade in tool & die with Milwaukee Chaplet Corporation in 1950 and began working for Kiekhaefer Marine as a tool & die maker. John served in the U.S. Army and trained to become an artillery surveyor. He served in Germany as crew chief with the 594th Field Artillery Battalion until 1956. Upon receiving his honorable discharge he returned to Kiekhaefer and continued in the die casting business. He met his wife, Eileen Gollnick, while working at Mercury Marine. They were married October 3, 1959 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedarburg. He retired from Mercury Marine in 1995 and went on to enjoy retirement, traveling and spending time with family and friends.



He is survived by his two daughters, Laura Dow of Fond du Lac and Susan (Scott) McCreedy of Monument, CO; two granddaughters, Courtney McCreedy, Denton, TX and Rachel McCreedy, Monument, CO; one brother, Bill (Shirl) Dow of West Bend; one sister, Dolores Kundrat of Massachusetts; his friend and loving companion, Christa Gollnick of Plymouth; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Eileen, in 2014.



A memorial service will be held at a later date.



The family extends a special thank you to the 5 West nursing staff at St. Agnes Hospital for the care, compassion, and kindness given to John and his family.



In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Scleroderma Foundation or the Fond du Lac Humane Society in John’s name are appreciated.
