John D. "Jack" Olson

February 25, 1934 — November 30, 2017

John D. “Jack” Olson, 83 of Fond du Lac, died Thursday, November 30, 2017 at his residence. He was born in Fond du Lac on February 25, 1934 to Carl and Olga (Lundkvist) Olson. On October 24, 1959, he married Marion Ellefson at Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac.



Of utmost importance to Jack were his family and his faith in Jesus Christ. He loved spending

time traveling the country on multiple bus trips with his wife, Marion. In addition, Jack also enjoyed golfing, singing and playing ping pong. He was an Industrial Engineer at G&L, retiring in 1996. Jack was a member of Grace Reformed Church in Fond du Lac for over 4 decades. Since 1971, he sang in the church choir. Jack also served as an elder, deacon and superintendent of the Sunday school classes. He was a member of Elks Lodge #57, the G&L Oldsters Club and was president of American Field Service (AFS). Jack and Marion were foster parents for many years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956, receiving both the National Defense Service Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal for his time in Germany.



Survivors include his wife, Marion; 3 daughters, Julie (Craig) Gruening of Fond du Lac, Mary Ellen Olson of Appleton and Sheryl (Carl) Zwerg of Appleton; 3 grandchildren, Brian Gruening of Columbus, Wis., Jennifer (Aaron) Sides of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Jaclyn (Eric) June of Oshkosh; his niece, Diane (George) Nagy of California; and 2 grand-nieces, Tammy (Matt) Castillo of Tennessee and Erica (Michael) Poyntz of California. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Carl (Anita).



Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM on Monday, December 4, 2017 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave. in Fond du Lac. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Grace Reformed Church, 163 East 18th St. in Fond du Lac with Pastor Barry Vegter officiating. Visitation at the church will begin at 10:00 AM and continue until the time of services. Entombment in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum at Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery will follow the funeral service.



In lieu of flowers, a memorial to the Northeast Wisconsin Old Glory Honor Flight will be established at a later date.
