Alexander N. Makaris

Alexander "Alex" N. Makaris, 91, of Fond du Lac, died Monday, July 15, 2013, at the Hospice Home of Hope, with his wife and family at his side. He was born January 10, 1922, in Chicago, the son of Nick and Glykeria Kondox Makaris. On November 15, 1942, he married Despina Kocos in Fond du Lac at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Alex was formerly employed by the Soo Line Railroad as a switchman for 45 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. During WW II, Alex served with the US Army in Europe. He was a member of Trier-Puddy American Legion Post #75 and Bohlman-Grimes Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1904. Surviving is his wife, Despina, a brother, Lester (Carrie) Makaris of Elmwood Park, IL, a sister, Pauline (Marlin) Northrup of Kingman, AZ, a sister-in-law, Mary Hoehn of Fond du Lac, and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Annie Lorenzen and Rosella Bitakis, a brother, James Makaris, and four brothers-in-law, Gus Kocos, Nicholas Kocos, Wally Lorenzen, and Jack Hoehn.



Visitation for Alexander "Alex" Makaris will be on Friday, July 19, 2013, from 10 to 11 AM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 198 N. Macy Street, Fond du Lac. Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Friday at the church. Rev. Peter Pappademetriou will officiate and entombment will be in the Garden Mausoleum in Rienzi Cemetery. Memorials to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church would be appreciated.
