Barbara Vercouteren

Barbara Vercouteren, 72, of Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 15, 2015, after a 7-month battle with thyroid cancer. Barb, daughter of Elmer and Leona (Starck) Scheib, grew up in Sheboygan and was a 1961 graduate of Sheboygan North High School. After graduation she worked for the Sheboygan Clinic. On August 14, 1965, she married Peter Vercouteren at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Sheboygan, WI. Barb was employed at Krail Jewelry in Fond du Lac for 22 years. She was a member and past president of the Jaycettes, an active member of Pilgrim United Church of Christ, sang in the church choir and was also a member of the South Shore Chorale.



In addition to her husband Pete, Barb is survived by her two daughters Julie Vercouteren Petrie of De Pere and Lisa (Craig) Eyers of Oregon; grandchildren Brett (Alicia) Petrie of Stockbridge, Brandon Petrie (Aretta Heitger) of Fond du Lac, Samantha and Colton Eyers of Oregon; great grandchildren Logan and Tyler Petrie and Brooklyn; two sisters, Marilyn (Dick) Mandel of Sheboygan and Sandra (William)Lind of Mequon, WI; sister-in-law Pam Scheib of Sheboygan; and many special nieces and nephews. Barb was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Jim.

Friends and family will gather for lunch and a celebration of Barb’s life on Saturday, March 28, 2015, 12:00 PM at Pilgrim UCC, 535 Stow Street, Fond du Lac, with Pastor Ted Drewsen officiating.

A private family burial was held at Union Cemetery in the Town of Holland prior to the celebration.



The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Hartig, Dr. Witek, and Dr. Traynor and their teams at UW Hospital, Dr. Fabricius and Dr. Jones of Agnesian Healthcare, the nurses at both UW Hosptial and St. Agnes Hospital, Pilgrim UCC Parish Nurse Sue Schmitz, home healthcare nurses in Madison and Fond du Lac, and the staff and nurses from Agnesian Hospice Hope for their compassion and wonderful care.



In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Barbara Vercouteren Memorial Fund.
