Christina G. Schmitz

April 20, 1918 — August 18, 2015

Christina G. (Wagner) Schmitz, 97, formerly of 185 E Arndt St. and a resident at St. Francis Home, died on Tuesday, August 18, 2015. She passed away peacefully at the home she knew for the past 10 years with her children by her side during her short illness. While her stay there, she became friends with many of the residents, staff members, and Sisters of St. Agnes. She enjoyed participating in the many group activities provided, and attending mass and saying the rosary daily.

Christina was born on April 20, 1918, in St. Joe, the daughter of Peter and Gertrude Pickart Wagner. She attended school at St. Joe’s Catholic School in St. Joe.

On September 28, 1949, she married Melvin J. Schmitz at St. Patrick’s Church in Fond du Lac. Together they shared 56 years of marriage.

Her faith and family were the center of her life. Most of her time was spent being a loving wife, homemaker, and caring for her family, yet she always had time to help others. Christina worked at the Henry Boyle Home and then for Saint Francis Home where she was the first cook at the home. She also enjoyed gardening, playing cards with family and friends, going to Holy Hill, Las Vegas and traveling the European countries.

Christina was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Prior to the consolidation of churches, she was a member of St. Patrick’s Church. She was an active member of the St. Patrick’s Altar and Rosary Society, and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, and St. Lawrence Seminary Parents Guild.

Survivors include her children: John M. Schmitz and his wife Nancy, Thomas R. Schmitz and his wife Susan, Mary Elaine D. Rosenthal and her husband Richard, Julie Ann D. Schmitz, Michael G. Schmitz and his wife Patti, and Joseph M. Schmitz all of Fond du Lac; her grandchildren James (Anne), David and Daniel Schmitz, Rachael (John) Schmitz Smith and Valerie (William) Schmitz Everson, Jason (Jennifer) Rosenthal, Kari (Brad) Rosenthal Kallenbach, and Ryan (Megan) Rosenthal, Christopher Rosekrans (Jordan Backman), Cory and Jaime Schmitz; her great-grandchildren Lilah and Joseph Schmitz, Victoria and Allison Smith, Franklin, William, Isaac and Elijah Everson, Jaanika, Jelena and Jurista Rosenthal, Elijah and Ashton Kallenbach, and Carter Schmitz; her brother Benno (Florence) Wagner; brother-in-law Gerald Blonigen and sisters-in-law Marjorie Schneider and Alma Schmitz and other relatives, nieces and nephews.
