Clarence C. Kromm

September 29, 1928 — July 28, 2017

Clarence C. Kromm, 88, of Fond du Lac, WI passed away peacefully on Friday, July 28, 2017, at Grancare Nursing Facility. He was born September 23, 1928, the son of Jacob and Katherina (Kinkel) Kromm. Clarence was a graduate of Fond du Lac High School. He spent his working years as a mechanic at Gibson’s; and in Maintenance at Galloway West, where he spent over 35 years until his retirement. Clarence married the love of his life, Audrey Mae Paul, on May 27, 1961 at Church of Peace in Fond du Lac. They spent 44 years of “Happily Ever After” until Audrey’s death on October 28, 2005.

Clarence loved working on cars as well as helping anyone that asked. His superior knowledge regarding fixing just about anything earned him the nickname, “Grandpa Rigger,” as he could almost always make broken things work again. He loved to spend hours down in his basement/garage workshops “tinkering,” and on the very rare occasions when he couldn’t fix it; it truly was “junk.” Clarence was also known for making wonderful windchimes and shared them with not only his family, but for anyone he called “friend,” of which there were many. Along with his enjoyment in helping others; giving rather than receiving, he also loved to sing songs from days gone by and had a beautiful voice.

He will be greatly missed by his two daughters, Kathy (Tim) Wallender of Fond du Lac, WI; Vicky (Scott) Drexel of Aberdeen, SD; his three grandchildren, Caleb (Auddy) Drexel, Moriah Drexel and Ben Drexel, as well as his two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Hayden Drexel, all of Aberdeen, SD; three “grandpups,” as well as nieces and nephews. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; wife and brothers, George, Fred, Bill and Herman; an infant brother John; and two sisters, Pauline Rich and Amelia Wiegert.

Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be at Rogersville Cemetery. Upon Clarence’s wishes, no visitation or services will take place other than a private ceremony for immediate family.

We would like to thank the many people at Grancare Nursing Facility that so compassionately cared for Clarence over these last years of his life; especially “his girls.” Many fond memories were created at Grancare due to the loving care they provided him.

Clarence could be a real “character” and was heard often in the hallways singing many of his favorite songs. Even though we can no longer hear his beautiful voice, nor hold his hand, we will forever hold him in our hearts.
