Dale H. Hochstein

January 5, 1943 — October 11, 2015

Dale Henry Hochstein, 72, of Fond du Lac, Wis., a beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed into eternal life on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, Wis. after suffering a stroke the preceding day. He passed peacefully surrounded by his wife and family. Dale was born on January 5th, 1943 in Milwaukee, Wis., the only child of Matthew and Janet (Marquardt) Hochstein.

In 1961, he graduated from Rufus King High School in Milwaukee and later served his country in the U.S. Army. Dale married his high school sweetheart, Janet D. Nordby, on May 22, 1965. She preceded him in death on August 27, 2006. Dale was remarried on September 27, 2008 to Jo Ann Freund of Fond du Lac.

In 1980, after many years in wholesale flooring sales, Dale purchased Eaton's Fresh Pizza in Fond du Lac. He and his family were very active in the business which is still owned by his son’s family (Oshkosh, Wis.) and his step-daughter’s family (Fond du Lac).

Dale accepted Christ as his Savior, was a member of Grace Reformed Church in Fond du Lac, and was a supporter of the Fond du Lac (Badgerland) Youth for Christ. He also served the community as a member of the Fond du Lac Evening Optimist. It was through the Optimists where he was involved in many fundraising events to support youth programs in Fond du Lac. Dale and Jo Ann enjoyed cruise vacations, time at their summer retreat in the Wisconsin Dells, and wintering at their home in Leesburg, Florida. Dale also enjoyed watching the Brewers and Packers with his friends, reading novels, and discussing the politics of the day.

Any recap of Dale’s life would be incomplete without mention of how much he enjoyed attending the annual Jimmy Buffet concert at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in Elkhorn, Wis. with a group of close friends and fellow “Parrotheads.” Dale was deeply loved by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandson. He will be greatly missed, but his family takes great comfort in knowing that Dale is now home truly “relaxing in Margaritaville” with his Lord and Savior.

Dale is survived by his wife, Jo Ann; 3 children, Jason (Michele) of Oshkosh, Bryan (Susan) of Tallahassee, Fla. and Amanda Hochstein of Berlin, Wis.; 3 step-children, Lynn (Jeff) Nickel of Fond du Lac, Barb Merten of Menominee, Mich. and Brian (Kris) Merten of St. Cloud, Wis.; 5 grandchildren, Cody, Sophie and Jack Hochstein (all of Oshkosh), Rachel and Matthias Hochstein (both of Tallahassee); 9 step-grandchildren, Melinda (Ryan) Seaman, Curtis Gozdziewski, Brandon, Tyler and Tiffany Nickel (all of Fond du Lac), Brian and David Ray (both of Menominee) and Karson and McKenna Merten (both of St. Cloud); and a great-grandson, Bentley Seaman, of Fond du Lac. Preceding him in death was his first wife, Janet, and his parents; Matthew and Janet.

A celebration of Dale’s life will be held Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 2:00 PM, Grace Reformed Church, 163 18th St. in Fond du Lac. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until the time of celebration. The Rev. Barry Vegter will officiate with burial following in Rienzi Cemetery, N6101 County Road K, in Fond Du Lac. Military honors will be presented by the American Legion – Trier Puddy Post #75.
