Daniel D. "Dan" Rice

April 10, 1923 — December 20, 2006

Daniel "Dan" D. Rice, 83, of 499 Pearl Lane, died Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at Hospice Home of Hope. He was born April 10, 1923 in Fond du Lac, the son of Bert and Amelia Bluemke Rice. He was a graduate of Fond du Lac High School class of 1942. He was active in swimming and was an All Conference football player. Dan was a veteran of the US Army Engineers and a Tech Sergeant serving from 1943 "“1945 in Africa, Sicily and Southern France. As a youth and through his adulthood, he loved model airplanes especially planes flown in WWI. On October 15, 1949 he married Melonie E. Trott at Immanuel Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. John Becker officiating. Dan worked for the Department of Corrections for 20 years at Kettle Moraine Correctional Facility, Plymouth. He was a life long member of Immanuel Trinity Lutheran Church. He served as a scout leader, church council member and taught Sunday school for many years. Dan was also a member of the EAA. He enjoyed woodworking, especially building birdhouses for family and friends. Although he was a "frustrated golfer", he taught many youth how to golf. SURVIVORS: his wife of 57 years, Melonie E. Rice, Fond du Lac; three children, daughter, Nancy Zahn of Illinois and her two sons, Jordan and Spencer, son, Guy (Ludeen) Rice, Fond du Lac and their four children, Gavin Rice, Andrea (Ben) Putz, Collin (Samantha) Rice, Aleisha Rice, son, Kurt (Cher) Rice, Colgate, WI and their four children, Zachary, Meredith, Harrison and Margo Rice. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Earl, Harry, Bert and Howard; and four sister, Dorothy Schmidt, Ethel Mapes, Mabel Boese, and Evelyn Weddig.



VISITATION: The family will receive friends from 11AM "“12 Noon on Saturday, December 23, 2006 at Immanuel Trinity Lutheran Church. A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday at the church with Rev. Douglas V. Hedman officiating. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Immanuel Trinity Lutheran Church or Hospice Home of Hope."Dan will always be remembered for his great sense of humor.""He was a devoted husband, grandfather and good neighbor."Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
