Daniel P. Kover

May 31, 1956 — July 25, 2022

Daniel P. Kover, age 66, the beloved husband of Teresa Westing who is the Advance Funeral Planner at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, died in his home July 25, 2022 of lung cancer.

At the dawn of 2022, Dan began planning for numerous spring household and landscape projects using the talents and tools for which he was well known. He could fix or build anything, having worked as a mechanic for 30 years for a Chevrolet dealership in Nebraska. If a neighbor needed expert fix-it advice or a special tool, Dan was the generous go-to person. He took pride in his lush and weedless lawn.

He is remembered for planning and delivering life celebrations: organizing neighborhood cookouts, surprising neighborhood children as the early morning Easter Bunny, being known as the best candy and hot chocolate Halloween stop, and offering summer cotton candy, hotdogs and sno-cones as freebies out of his garage.

An animal lover from childhood, the neighborhood pooches knew on their daily walk that Dan had a doggie treat waiting for them. They tugged and wagged their way to his front lawn chair post where a hug and treat awaited them.

The unexpected cancer diagnosis on April Fool’s Day, and the usual treatments robbed him of completing his planned projects, and neighborhood gatherings, to his final regret.

Memories of dutiful service as a Green Beret in Vietnam where he and his highly classified Special Operations Group, rescued 826 American prisoners of war, returning sons, fathers, husbands, and brothers to their families. Dan alone carried 84 wounded soldiers through the jungle on his back. These memories came to mind in his final days. He only wished Americans would have thanked them instead of mistreating them on their return. They were all true heroes.

His wife and lone survivor, carries his spiritual wisdom, ready humor, unflinching courage, and abiding love in her heart.

His preplanned cremation and memorial gatherings have taken place. Final resting place will be next to his parents Joe and Marie Kover in Avoca, NE.

Memorial gifts payable to his wife c/o the funeral home will be determined later, most likely to benefit animals and/or Vietnam vets and their families.

Services are in the care of Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 North Park Avenue, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935. Additional information and guestbook can be found at ueckerwitt.com
