David Lee "Dave" Stetter

June 23, 1942 — January 20, 2017

David Lee “Dave” Stetter, 74, of Rosendale, Wis., succumbed to cancer at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, January 20, 2017. Dave was born on June 23, 1942 in Oshkosh, Wis., the eldest son of David and Ruth (Bradley) Stetter. He graduated from Berlin High School in 1960 and from UW - Oshkosh in 1964 with a BS degree and in 1971 with a Masters degree. On June 18, 1966, Dave married Kathleen Ryan at Sacred Heart Church in Oshkosh.



After beginning his career as a secondary science teacher in Mauston in 1964, he taught at Goodrich High School in the Fond Du Lac School District from 1967 until his retirement in 2000. Two of his notable achievements included: Wisconsin Biology Teacher of the Year in 1992 and the Kohl Award in 1993. After retirement, he taught a distance learning aviation fundamentals class for the Experimental Aircraft Association in Oshkosh.



Dave’s interests and activities were numerous and varied-always focused on protecting the environment, actively engaging in the community, taking on leadership roles, and learning new things. Most recently, he was president of the Mid America Geographic Foundation and conservation chair for Fond du Lac County Audubon. He was also a member of the Fond du Lac Retired Educators Association, Rosendale Lions, Rosendale and Oshkosh Boy Scouts, Fond du Lac Yacht and Sailing Clubs, and Fond du Lac County Democratic Party.



Dave was a member of numerous local, national, and international conservation organizations including: Sierra Club-John Muir Chapter, International Crane Foundation, John Muir Legacy, Marsh Haven Nature Center, Defenders of Wildlife, Ice Age Trail Alliance and Wisconsin Science Teachers - Retired.



Survivors include his wife, Kathleen of 50 years; daughters, Shannon (Dave) Furman, and Sarah (Rick) Ludwig; son, David R. Stetter; AFS son, Adriano (Paty) Silva; brothers, Karl (Susan) and John (Jody); a sister, Mary King; grandchildren, Diego, Gabriela, Rafael, Ricky, Ryan, and Cyan; special niece, Jodie (Gary) Peters; sister-in-law, Jeri Ryan; and other extended family members and friends. His parents, David and Ruth, preceded him in death.







Visitation for Dave will be held from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave in Fond du Lac. A time of sharing memories will conclude the Tuesday visitation. Funeral service at Uecker-Witt will begin at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM and continuing until the time of service. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Oshkosh. Cremation has taken place.



In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are appreciated to the Fond du Lac County Audubon Society for the Dave Stetter Environmental Education Fund established in his honor to promote youth environmental experiences.
