David R Weber

March 21, 1937 — November 9, 2016

Following a life dedicated to his family and his patients, our husband, father, grandfather, Opa, and friend, David R Weber, 79, passed away peacefully in Madison on Wednesday, November 9, 2016.

David was born on March 21, 1937, in New Castle, Ind., the only child of Raymond and Juanita (Scott) Weber. In 1955 he graduated from Hagerstown Jefferson Township High School in Indiana, where he also met his future wife, Mary Seeb. On August 2, 1959, he and Mary were married in Hagerstown. David received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in 1958. He graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1962 and was an intern and resident in Internal Medicine at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals in Madison. He served one year as chief medical resident.

On Christmas Eve of 1965, he received draft notice and departed for Vietnam in June of 1966. While serving as a physician in Vietnam at the 93rd Evacuation Hospital he traveled to Washington, D.C., and personally met with the U.S. surgeon general to advocate for the authorization of life-saving medication to administer to soldiers in Vietnam. Because of this work, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.

In 1968 David and Mary moved to Fond du Lac where they resided for 46 years. There, David joined the Fond du Lac Clinic (later becoming the Fond du Lac Regional Clinic). He was the sixteenth physician and second internist to join the practice. David served in countless leadership positions throughout his 34 years at the clinic, including president of the board. At St. Agnes Hospital, he served as chief of staff and medical director. He was a fellow of the American College of Physicians and member of the Wisconsin State Medical Society, as well as its Board and Scholarship Committee. He was a member of Rotary Club International and served on the United Way Board. He was also an active member of Pilgrim United Church of Christ.

David was a lifelong learner and avid reader. After retiring, he enjoyed traveling and spending more time with his family. Above all, David loved his family.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of Middleton; children, Scott (Margaret) Weber of Chicago (Jonathan, Katherine), Mary Elizabeth (John) Pollard of Middleton (Alissa, Noah), Robert (Anne) Weber of Glen Ellyn, Ill. (Ethan, Ben, Christopher), Deborah (Tom) Mortonson of Fox Point (Ryan, Evan, Elise) and special cousin, Jon (Carol) Beeson of Cincinnati, Ohio.
