Delbert L. "Del" Schaefer

DELBERT "DEL" L. SCHAEFERDelbert "Del" L. Schaefer, age 62 of Fond du Lac, died Monday, November 14,2005 at his residence. He was born on July 12,1943 to the late Martin and Julia Thill Schaefer. He attended grade school at St. Killian's Catholic Grade School. Mr. Schaefer served his country as a member of the Army Reserves. Del was a respiratory therapist at St. Agnes Hospital for 34 years and was also employed by AHS Respiratory Services of Milwaukee. In 2003 Del was honored as the Respiratory Therapist of The Year by the Wisconsin Society for Respiratory Care. He belonged to the Fond du Lac Evening Lions Club where he had served as president. He received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award from the Lions Club International Foundation for 1995-96. He married Kathy Heise in 1967. On August 22,1992 he married Barbara McMurry. Del loved his children, grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. He also enjoyed playing cribbage and making cole slaw for family gatherings.He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Schaefer, Fond du Lac, two sons, Kevin Schaefer, Fond du Lac and Richard McMurry, Madison, two daughters, Joy Schaefer, (fiancé Ron) Fond du Lac, Julie McMurry (fiancé Tony) Milwaukee, four grandchildren, one sister, Beatrice Schaefer, Fond du Lac, his mother-in-law, Marion Leonard, Dotyville, his sister-in-laws, Mary Beth Leonard, Fond du Lac, Annie (Dave) Hesprich, Byron, Rose (John) Broome, Mattoon, IL, his brother-in-laws, Tony "Doc" (Cheryl) Leonard, Dotyville, Mike (Sue) Leonard, Eldorado, and Tom (Mary) Leonard, Dotyville, and many nieces and nephews. Del was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Norbert and Joseph.



The family will receive friends on Thursday from 3-7 P.M. at the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 P.M.with Deacon Larry Hughes at the funeral home. Cremation will take place with inurnment at Calvary Cemetery.Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is serving the family.
