Eugene C. MundlEugene C. "Gene" Mundl, 69, of 205 Center Street, North Fond du Lac, died peacefully on Sunday, December 18, 2005, at the Hospice Home of Hope with his wife, Mary, at his side. Gene passed away from complications of Parkinson's disease, which he battled for the past 20 years. Gene was born in Antigo, WI on April 3, 1936, to Ben and Ruth Finch Mundl. He met his wife, Mary, while attending college at University of Wisconsin-Rivers Falls and was married September 12, 1964. Gene's career was with the State of Wisconsin, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, where he helped many clients overcome their challenges obtaining meaningful education and employment. Throughout his life, Gene was known by the people he met as a kind and soft-spoken man. He served the community as a member of the North Fond du Lac school board, and was instrumental in the upgrading of the district's athletic facilities. Gene also gave back to his community as a member of the North Fond du Lac Optimist Club. His interests included reading, especially about cars, and wild life and bird watching. Gene was a dedicated Packers fan, braving the cold of the "Ice Bowl" and the lean years of the 70's and 80's. One of Gene's favorite places was the family cottage on Post Lake in Langlade County. During the last two years of his life, he was blessed with the presence of his two granddaughters.Surviving is his wife, Mary, a daughter, Julie (Frank) Eichstaedt of Geneva, IL, a son, Mark (Significant Other, Lisa Schaefer) Mundl of Milwaukee, two grandchildren, Annika and Kayla Eichstaedt of Geneva, IL, and a brother, Dick (Doris) Mundl of New Brighton, MN. His parents preceded him in death.



Visitation for Mr. Eugene C. Mundl will be on Thursday, December 22, 2005, from 5 to 7 pm at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 535 Stow Street, Fond du Lac. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 7 pm at the church. The Rev. Ted Drewsen will officiate. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Hospice Home of Hope or the Wisconsin Parkinson's Association, 945 N. 12th Street, Suite 4602, Milwaukee, WI 53233.
