Francis Edward Shires

Francis Edward Shires, 81, died peacefully early Thursday morning at his home at 70 Elm Acres, Fond du Lac, after a brief battle with cancer. Frank was born December 1, 1923, in Honolulu, Hawaii, the son of Francis Edward and Catherine Gouveia Shires. Frank, of Wood Dale, IL and Leslyn Schmidt, of Hartford, WI, were married on November 17, 1978, in Barrington, IL. He attended St. Louis College in Honolulu. His love of books and libraries extended throughout his adult life. He sold library materials to public, academic, and school libraries in Wisconsin, and through out the Midwest. He was employed by A.C. McClurg book division, Ebsco Subscription Services, Demco, Inc, and Winnebago Software. He served in the US Army from 1945 to 1946. Frank was a member of the Fond du Lac Evening Optimist Club for 10 years, and was President of the group in 1999-2000.Surviving is his wife, Leslyn, a son, Frank Curtis (Laura) Shires of Roselle, IL, a daughter, Katherine (Raymond) McIntyre of Lake Zurich, IL, a granddaughter, Heather (Joe) Martin of North Aurora, IL, grandsons Jeffrey (Kim) McIntrye of Gilberts, IL, and Colin (Andrea) McIntyre of Lake Moor, IL, four great-grandchildren, Taylor Martin, Mason, Courtney, and Joshua McIntyre. He is further survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Anthony (Collette) Schmidt of Fond du Lac and Bonita Springs, FL, and nieces Dana (George) Kress of Neosho and Karen (Christopher) Montag of Slinger, and other relatives and many friends. It is certainly noteworthy that he is also survived by his English springer spaniel, Wooster Shires. Frank and his dog had a very special relationship.



Visitation for Mr. Francis Edward Shires will be on Sunday, August 7, 2005, from 4:00 to 7:30 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at 7:30 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Deacon Larry Hughes will officiate. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be in All Faiths Chapel Mausoleum at Rienzi Cemetery. Memorials may be directed in Frank's name to the Fond du Lac Area United Way Foundation the Gottfried Arboretum c/o the University of Wisconsin Fond du Lac, 400 University Drive, Fond du Lac, or the American Cancer Society.
