Gary W. Anthes

Gary W. Anthes, 82, of Campbellsport, died Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Hospice Home of Hope. He was born July 2, 1932 in Oshkosh, the son of Harry W. and Esther M. Billington Anthes. On October 31, 1959 he married Eva A. Buetow at Presentation Church in North Fond du Lac and she preceded him in death on September 7, 2013. For fifty years he was a tool and die maker working for Tobin Tool & Die for ten years and Wells Manufacturing for 40 years, retiring in 2001. Gary was an active member with the Van Dyne Fire Department for 49 years serving in leadership roles including president and currently an honorary member of the department. Gary served on the Fond du Lac County Board from 1978 to 1984. He was a member of Presentation Church in North Fond du Lac from 1959 to 1993 and then became a member of St. Matthews Church in Campbellsport. Gary was a charter member of the Van Dyne Lions Club, a member of the Van Dyne Sportsmen’s Club and a member of the Rock Falls Rod and Gun Club in Lincoln County where he spent many years at his cottage on the Wisconsin River. He was an avid bowler in many major bowling leagues in the Fond du Lac area, and was a member of the Fond du Lac Bowling Hall of Fame. He bowled many times on the T.V. program, “Bowling with the Champs”. In his bowling career Gary bowled 3 – 300 games. In addition to bowling, he enjoyed golfing, woodworking, and in retirement became a prolific water color painter sharing his art work with family and friends.



He is survived by his six children and nine grandchildren; Carla (John) Schommer of Sheboygan and their children, Mark and Sarah Schommer; Greg Anthes of San Diego, CA; David (Vicki) Anthes of Marietta, GA and their children, Reed, Jacob and Nathan Anthes; Bill (Michelle) Anthes of Oshkosh and their children, Alyssa, Jacob, Kaylee and Kyle Anthes; Kate (Bob) Hoffmaster of Fond du Lac; and Jon (Cheri) Anthes of Fond du Lac. He is further survived by one sister, Patricia (Thomas) Binder of Oshkosh; one step-brother, Carlton (JoAnn) Klemp of Appleton; one step-sister, Carla Rose (Daniel) Goffard of DePere. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Henry Klemp; his wife, Eva; one brother, Dennis; two sisters, Beverly Abraham and Kathleen Schilling.



The visitation will be held Sunday, December 21, 2014 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and again on Monday from 9:30 – 11:00 am at church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 22, 2014 at Holy Family Church, 271 4th Street Way, Fond du Lac. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery.



The family extends a special thanks to his caregivers and doctors, Campbellsport Clinic, St. Agnes Occupational and Physical Therapy, Fond du Lac Dialysis Center, and Hospice Home of Hope for their care and compassion.
