Georgene Moffit

February 22, 1928 — June 15, 2016

Just weeks before Georgene Moffitt (GG) died, her daughter, Molly, included her in a promotional video for the Agnesian HealthCare Hospice Home of Hope where Georgene had recently settled.

Though weakened by a debilitating mix of physical infirmities, Georgene gathered herself and mustered her energy and courage to ask the camera, and all of us, "What's your life legacy?"

This was an appropriate final challenge from a woman who loved to contribute to projects that left a mark and were meaningful.

Georgene was a child of the Great Depression. The fourth daughter of a first generation Croatian immigrant, John Krissman and his wife, Anne.

Growing up with little means, Georgene developed high standards of ethics, effort, and work. She developed an early appreciation for classical music and learned the violin at a young age. She played in numerous musical groups from her college orchestra at Brigham Young University to various community orchestras and stage productions.

Those who associated with Georgene always expressed appreciation for her reliability and good character. She taught many in her capacity as a sixth grade teacher in Utah, Southern California and where she finally retired in Fremont, California. Her legacy to them was vast. Her students still talk about Mrs. Moffitt as a turning point teacher in their lives.

Answering her own question to us, Georgene's life legacy was vast. She taught us to love music, appreciate a good book. Explore cultures and travel. Be accepting and loving. Where much is given much is expected. Lean in and work hard and extend service to those less fortunate.

In her final days, we were able to see the beautiful, simple immigrant girl who wanted only to love and be loved, and to experience the world through beauty and music.

Her children Jed Moffitt, Molly & Timothy Haack, her grandchildren Amanda & Garth Schumacher, Jillian & Darin Tuttle, Cody Stafford, Miles, Seth and Damon Moffitt and great grandchildren Lucy, Hudson and Lydia are blessed by her legacy.

GG died peacefully and comfortably at Agnesian HealthCare Hospice Home of Hope on Wednesday, June 15, 2016. We are grateful to the loving team of providers and volunteers who cared for her there - guided by Jim Hebel, RN.

Georgene was laid to rest at Irvington Memorial Cemetery, Fremont, California after a private family memorial.
