Gilbert E. Mayer, 95, died Monday, March 3, 2008 at St. Francis Home, Fond du Lac. He was born September 23, 1912 in Calumet County the son of John and Rose Sabel Mayer. Gilbert was baptized in the Catholic faith. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps Club serving from 1933-1941. Gilbert was a veteran of the US Army. After serving in the Army, Gilbert worked for Lavernz Shoe Factory, New Holstein until his retirement in the early 1970's. Following his retirement he worked at Mercury Marine for 4 years. Gilbert enjoyed golf, bowling, reading and especially traveling and photography. SURVIVORS: six sisters, Stella Lefeber, Hartford, Catherine Fox, Fond du Lac, Alma Halleman, Polk City, FL, Ernestine Fox, Neshkoro, Dorothy (Jerome) Fox, Fond du Lac, Janet (Ralph) Huck Novitske, Ripon. He is further survived by one sister-in-law, Leona Mayer, Brillion; one brother-in-law, William Lefeber; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Raymond Mayer and Francis Mayer, one sister, Marie Lefeber, two infant sisters, one sister-in-law, and several brothers-in-law.



VISITATION: will be from 1-2 PM on Friday, March 7, 2008 at St. Francis Home Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 PM on Friday at the chapel with Gilbert's close friend, Rev. Paul Vanden Hogen officiating. Burial will take place in St. Anna Parish Cemetery.Memorials are appreciated to St. Agnes Hospice Hope or St. Francis Employees Appreciation Fund.The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the St. Francis Home and St. Agnes Hospice for their loving care of Gilbert. They would also like to thank the Journey Partners for the time they spent with Gilbert during his final days.Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
