Gordon G. Lakin

April 8, 1925 — July 14, 2013

Gordon "Gordy" Lakin, 88, formerly of Fond du Lac, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2013, at the Chilton Care Center, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 8, 1925, in Fond du Lac, the son of Robert G. and Norma Tate Lakin. Graduating from Fond du Lac High School, Gordy joined the Navy in 1942 and underwent his Basic Training at Great Lakes Naval Center. During this time, he attended Miami University in Oxford, OH, and played clarinet in the Navy Band for a short time. He was proud to have served in the U.S. Navy as a Radioman 1st Class during WW II in the Pacific from February 1943 to March of 1946. On December 14, 1946, he married Lucille Strizek in Fond du Lac. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #664 and Chilton VFW Post # 3153. After he was discharged, he served an apprenticeship and eventually became a sheet metal Journeyman throughout the area, working with heating and air conditioning for 40 years. The last 15 years, he worked for the Groeschel Company, and retired from there at the age of 62. Surviving is his wife of 66 years, Lucille, of Chilton, a daughter, Jo Anne (Larry) Winer of Maui, Hawaii, son Mike (JoAnn) Lakin of Chilton and their children, Todd (Mary) Propson, and great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Grant, and Harlee, and great-great-granddaughter, Ariana, son, James (Sue) Lakin of Abrams, WI, and their children, Matthew (Brigid) Lakin, Rebecca (Bill) Gullan , and great-grandchildren, Grace and Winston, and son, Nick (Debra) Lakin of Winona, MN, and their children, Nicole and Alexandra, and a brother, Ray Lakin, of Fond du Lac. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends Betty and Al Buelter of Oshkosh, and Leroy Weninger of Chilton. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Josh Trujillo, and two brothers, Arden and Ed "Smiley" Lakin.



Visitation for Gordon "Gordy" Lakin will be on Thursday, July 18, 2013, from 10 AM to 1 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Liturgy of the Word services will be at 1 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. Deacon Dennis Bennin will officiate and burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Gordon's name. The family would like to thank the many people who cared for Gordy throughout his struggle: Dr. Randy Theiler, nurses and doctors at Calumet Medical Center, Calumet Home Health Care, and the entire staff at Chilton Care Center for their compassionate care.
