Irene D. Schlefke

Irene D. Schlefke, 86, of Oakfield, died Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at St. Agnes Hospital. She was born June 12, 1928 in Lamartine, the daughter of Norbert and Edith Hackbarth Wild. On July 5, 1947 she married Elmer E. Schlefke at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Oakfield. Elmer preceded her in death on September 21, 2001. Irene was a long time member of St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Rogersville and currently a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Oakfield. She enjoyed baking and cooking for family and friends. Irene will be remembered for her chocolate angel food cakes, peanut squares, and cookies decorated for every occasion. She also enjoyed crocheting afghans and made one for each of her children and grandchildren.



She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Gene) Kollman of Oakfield; her son, Roger (Barb) Schlefke of Rosendale; grandchildren, Pam (Jody) Grahl, Dawn (Dave) Scannell, Tim (Kari) Schlefke, and Jason (Amanda) Schlefke; great grandchildren, Ashley (Damian Farr) Grahl, Justin (Sara Postel) Grahl, Kylie Pucker, Gracie and Reed Scannell, Gage and Celia Schlefke, Hayden and Harper Irene Schlefke. She is further survived by sisters-in-law, Florence Wild of Kekoskee, and Joyce Schlefke of Oakfield; aunts, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer; one brother, Ray (Doris) Wild; brothers-in-law, Melvin Wild and Harold Schlefke.



The visitation will be held from 9:30 am – 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Oakfield. The funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Oakfield, with Rev. Christopher Goelzer officiating. Burial will be held in Avoca Cemetery.
