James V. "Jim" Schaeve

March 10, 1938 — January 9, 2014

James "Jim" Victor Schaeve, 75 a native of Fond du Lac currently residing in Hartford, WI went home to Jesus on Thursday night January 9, 2014 at the Mayville Nursing & Rehab/Center in Mayville where he was a resident for the past two months. While his family gathered, sharing old memories he peacefully went to his eternal home. Jim was born in Fond du Lac on March 10, 1938 to Arthur and Louise Flitcroft Schaeve. Jim attended Fond du Lac Schools and was a graduate of Goodrich High School Class of 1958.In 1958 he met Janet "Jan" Berg and on April 23, 1960 they were married at St. Mary's Church in Fond du Lac. They proudly raised their five children. He was employed by The Reporter for over 51 years as a paper boy, mail room worker, maintenance, apprentice printer and printer in the composing room. Later Jim became known as "the waving, smiling crossing guard" on Weis Avenue and Johnson Street. He loved his "Kids" he was fortunate enough to help children cross safely. Jim enjoyed sports he belonged to Fondy Softball, played, managed several teams, bowling, and dart ball, golfing and later enjoying his children and grandchildren participating in numerous sports and activities. He loved the Badgers, Packers and was proud to wear his "Nitschke" jersey. Spending time with family was very important especially the family vacations and camping trips. Jim was a member of the National Guard 127th Infantry Division stationed in Fort Lewis from 1961-1962. Jim was a member of Holy Family Parish-St. Mary's Church, Fond du Lac, Eagles Aerie No. 270 F. O.E. and the Red Arrow Division, and Senior Friends of Hartford..Surviving is his wife of 53 ½ years Janet "Jan" Schaeve, Hartford, two sons James (Kathy) Schaeve, and their children Jessica and James of Pleasant Prairie, Joel (Jennifer Coon) Schaeve and their children Nichole, Zachery and Leah of Germantown, three daughters Jackilyn (Richard) Webster of Oshkosh and her children James Mathew III, Ashley (Robert) Dyer and Jennifer (Adam) Wilkens and their father James R. Mathews Jr., Julie (John) Schmitz of Marinette and their sons Steven (Ashley) and Kevin, Jeanine (Jesse) Egan of Hartford and their children Drew and Sydney, six great-grandchildren Paige, Megan, Mallory, Gabriella, Kennedy and Vincent. His brother Butch (Dale) Schaeve, Fond du Lac, two sisters Virginia "Ginna" Putz, Fond du Lac and Patricia Reitz, Sheboygan. His special nieces and nephews and his extended families; Dick (Janet) Coon, Mike (Lee) Egan, Tom (Janice) McCauley, and Ralph (Judy) Tassone. His special friend Lu Lu. Jim was preceded in death by parents, father-in-law and mother -in-law, two brother-in-laws Lloyd Putz and George Reitz.



VISITATION: Friends may call on Monday, January 13, 2014 from 4 to 8 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and on Tuesday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 AM at the funeral home. FUNERAL: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Holy Family Parish- St. Mary's Church, 93 Marquette Street, Fond du Lac. Burial will follow in Estabrooks Cemetery. Trier-Puddy American Legion Post No. 75 will conduct military graveside services.
