John A. Snider

October 18, 1945 — September 24, 2014

John A. Snider, 68, a resident of the Town of Empire, died Wednesday morning at his residence of an aortic aneurysm. He was born October 18, 1945, in Fond du Lac, the son of Wilson and Virginia Schultz Snider. John was a 1963 graduate of L. P. Goodrich High School. From 1963 to 1967, he served with the US Air Force. On February 5, 1966, he married Susan Francis Oelke in Fond du Lac. John was formerly employed by Alliant Energy for 44 years as Chief Electrician Foreman, retiring in 2012. Our Dad, our Mom’s best friend, loved all sports, but his favorite sport was football, with his favorite team being the Green Bay Packers. He could quote players names, duration played, and was a faithful season ticket holder for 30 + years. He had several hobbies which included gardening, traveling, and listening to music, especially Buddy Holly, which some people say there is a close resemblance. Anywhere our Dad went, he was loved by all. He was heavily involved with the Fond du Lac Bowling Association, Ducks Unlimited, and Eagles Aerie #270.

John is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Susan, children, John J. (Fiancé’ Nikki Koepke) Snider, Kristen D. (Ronald) Fellers, and Tyler J. Snider all of Fond du Lac, grandchildren, Carissa L. Snider, Eve M. Amadon, and A.J. Snider, a sister, Jeanne (Richard) Kollman of Le Roy, WI, and a brother, Jerry Snider of Fond du Lac. He is further survived by two brothers-in-law, Ernie (Rose) Oelke of Miami, OK, and Marv (Marie) Oelke of Fond du Lac, four sisters-in-law, Sharon Solamita of Fond du Lac, Helen Oelke of The Villages, FL, Renie (John) Ziegler of Fond du Lac, Julie (Ed) Basler of Fond du Lac, and Sharon Oelke of Fond du Lac. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-n-law, Ernest and Irene Oelke, three brothers-in-law, Lee and Steve Oelke, and Jim Bruggink, and a niece, Heidi Oelke.

There is so much more we could say about our Dad, but hard to put into words, so we would like to share this poem:

We will never say goodbye to you, Dad,

Because we know this is not the end for us to see each other.

You will only be going to a place where there’s no pain or suffering.

We are happy for you, for you will be with God.

For now we need to go in separate ways.

We remember how your arms held us and gave us strength.

You were always there to listen, love, and defend each of us in everything.

You were our very best friend.

In our triumphs you were always proud.

We are very grateful and proud to call you our Dad.

Here deep inside our hearts you’ll always be.

We would give up everything to hug you one more time.

We each remember the last time we held your hand and how you looked us in the eyes.

If only we could turn back the time we would have never let you go.

We felt the world stop and our hearts stop beating when they told us you were gone….

How we wish we were only dreaming.

Just like the rain; tears fell from our eyes, none of us could speak for awhile.

Thank you Dad…

For always understanding, listening, caring, and loving us your whole life.

The greatest gift God gave us was YOU…our Dad...

It’s difficult to let you go but we must…

We must return the gift God gave us…

Till then;

See you in Heaven….
