John E. Callahan

John Edward Callahan, Jr., 65, of 58 S. Reserve Avenue, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, February 24, 2008, at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton. He was born July 25, 1942, in Fond du Lac, the son of John E. and Lucille Bermingham Callahan, Sr. On November 28, 1964, he married Cheryl Wagner at St. Patrick's Church in Fond du Lac. John was a member of Holy Family Parish and a former commentator at St. Patrick's Church. He graduated from St. Mary's Springs Academy in 1960, attended the Wisconsin State College-Oshkosh and later graduated from the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science. From 1963 to 1976, John practiced as a licensed funeral director. He then joined The Dodge Company of Boston, a worldwide supplier to the funeral profession. He was a member of Elks Lodge #57, a former member of the Noon Kiwanis Club, and was one of the founders of the Fond du Lac Cardinal Basketball Booster Club, of which he was the first President. An avid golfer, John was a member of the Wednesday Businessmen's League at Whispering Springs.Surviving is his wife, Cheryl, a daughter, Amy (partner Kathryn Rindy) Callahan of Madison, a son, John Edward "Jack" (Clare) Callahan III of Neenah, and two grandchildren, John Edward "J.J." Callahan IV and Carly Callahan, both of Neenah. He is further survived by a sister, Mary Jo (Jim) Aschenbrenner of Oshkosh, two brothers, James (Suzy) Callahan of Fond du Lac, and Michael (Patty) Callahan of Neenah, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. His parents preceded him in death.



Visitation for John Edward Callahan, Jr. will be on Wednesday, February 27, 2008, from 4 to 8 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and on Thursday, February 28, 2008, from 9:30 to 10:30 am at Holy Family Church, 271 4th Street Way. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be directed to Community Hospice Foundation, PO Box 1534, Appleton, WI 54912-1534. Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
