John E. "Jack" Charles

September 15, 1922 — December 9, 2008

Dr. John E. "Jack" Charles, 86, formerly of 214 E. Division Street, died Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at Grancare Nursing Center where he had been a resident for the past four months. He was born September 15, 1922, in Jersey City, New Jersey, the son of John E. and Helen Griffin Charles. On September 15, 1945, he married Dorothy E. Campagna in Chicago. Dr. Charles moved to Chicago as a teenager and attended medical school at the University of Chicago where he received his degree in medicine. He and his wife resided there until 1957 when they moved to Fond du Lac. He was a veteran of the US Army and Navy during WW II. From 1957 to 1989, he was a radiologist at St. Agnes Hospital. An avid reader, he also enjoyed skiing, golf, and scuba diving. Surviving is his beloved wife of 63 years, Dorothy, four daughters, Patricia (Mike) Rathsack of Flatwoods, KY, Kathleen "Kitty" (John) McCall of Philadelphia, PA, and Joan Wild and Lisa (Joe) Stoppleworth, both of Fond du Lac; three sons, Michael (Sharon) Charles and Stephen Charles, both of Fond du Lac, and John Charles III of Minneapolis, MN, two grandchildren, Nick Wild and Alexa McCall, and two step grandchildren, Colin and Katie Brown. His parents, a brother, Bob Charles, and a sister, Helen Stelton, preceded him in death.



Private family services will be held on Friday at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Cremation will follow with inurnment of cremated remains in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
