John L. Touchet

December 21, 1922 — April 27, 2015

John L. Touchet, age 92, died Monday, April 27, 2015 at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born on December 21, 1922 in Council Bluffs, IA, the son of John F. and Ruth E. (Lyneis) Touchet. John served in World War II in the Army Air Force from 1941-45. On November 25, 1948 he married Josephine Leb. She preceded him in death on July 23, 1978. On November 9, 1979 he married Cathy Verhaalen. They retired to Winter Haven, FL where they lived for twenty years. She preceded him in death on October 5, 2010.



John worked at Tobin Tool and Die, Sterling Custom Homes, then for G & L where he retired after thirty years. John was a city park board member from 1963-67. As a charter member of Sacred Heart Church, John actively participated in the development and growth of the parish and is a Holy Family Parish member. He was a 3rd Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council #664. John was a pilot, a member of the EAA, and he built his own experimental aircraft. He had coached boy’s baseball, he was an avid photographer, and he enjoyed gardening, bowling, playing cards, and horseshoes. As a photographer, John was especially proud of his unscripted and candid opportunity to photograph Prime Minister Winston Churchill during his tour of duty in England during World War II. He shared the photo with the Prime Minster and received an autographed copy in return. He was also an avid Packers and Brewers fan and never missed a game, even while he lived in Florida. This past November John was able to go on the Old Glory Honor Flight which was a memorable experience.



SURVIVORS: four sons, Jack (Marilou) Touchet of Oshkosh, Dave (Sue) Touchet of DePere, Jerry (Nancy) Touchet of Ft. Wayne, IN, Tom (Jan) Touchet of Appleton; three step-children, Barb (Juan) Sotelo of Fond du Lac, Tim (Elizabeth) Verhaalen of Randolph, and Kevin (Angela) Verhaalen of Hurricane, WV; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives Josephine and Cathy; two sisters, Fritzie Faye Jenkins, and Sr. Mary Agreda Touchet; his step-father, Harry Paul.



VISITATION: Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 9-11 A.M. at Sacred Heart Church-Holy Family, 200 S. Peters Ave, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935. FUNERAL: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday May 2, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Church-Holy Family, 200 S. Peters Ave, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.



Special thanks to all of the staff at St. Francis Terrace for their ongoing kindness during John’s stay there.
