Karen O. Johnson

Karen O. Johnson, was surrounded by her family when she was called by her Heavenly Father on Friday, May 4, 2018. Karen was born on November 16, 1946 in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Milton F. and Odilia C. Wondra Krueger. She was raised in Fond du Lac, and educated at St. Patrick’s and St. Joseph’s grade schools. A graduate of L.P. Goodrich High School in 1964. Upon graduation, Karen worked at St. Agnes Hospital until her first child was born. When her children became older, she returned to retail work. She was employed at H.C. Prange, Shopko and Wood’s Floral and Gifts.



On January 20, 1968, she married Jerry J. Johnson at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fond du Lac, and made her home in North Fond du Lac for 48 years until the time of Jerry’s death on January 14, 2016. Karen and her husband raised two children, Joel J. (Brenda) Johnson of Van Dyne, WI and Jodi J. (Jeff) Guenther of Shawano, WI.



Christ was the center of Karen’s life. She took great comfort in knowing God’s son, Jesus Christ, overcame death, and that Heaven’s gates opened for her. Karen was a member of Presentation Catholic Church in North Fond du Lac, where she served in the Bereavement ministry, Eucharistic ministry, and on the parish council. She was also a volunteer for ten years at the Agnesian Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac delivering the Eucharist, and helping prepare the meals for their residents.



Karen enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was an avid collector of antiques. She liked studying genealogy, working in her flower gardens, volunteering on special committees, traveling overseas, vacationing with her late husband, snowmobiling and bowling. Karen was very active until she became ill in 1995.



Karen is survived by her two children, and her best friend and beloved dog, “China”; seven grandchildren, Jenna (Andrew) Brooks, Justin Johnson, Autumn Johnson, Kyle Johnson, Kylie Guenther and Luke Guenther; special family member, Matthew; three brothers, Kenneth O. (Kathy) Krueger and Karl W. (Mary) Krueger all of Fond du Lac and Keith S. (Shirley) Krueger of Eldorado, WI; sister-in-law, Jan (Tom) Slater of Fond du Lac; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; her parents; her mother and father-in-law; grandson, Joel J. Johnson, Jr. in 1995 and numerous relatives and friends.



The visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Presentation Church in North Fond du Lac. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Presentation Church. The burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.



In lieu of flowers memorials are appreciated to Agnesian Hospice Home of Hope in Karen’s name.



The family wishes to thank the numerous Agnesian physicians and healthcare professionals in the Fond du Lac area that provided care for mom over the past twenty-one years. We would also like to give a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Agnesian Hospice Home of Hope that provided care, love, and support to our mom over the past year.
