Loran H. "Larry" Sawyer

October 9, 1932 — January 15, 2014

Loran (Larry) Sawyer, 81, of Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully at home on January 15, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Larry was born on October 9, 1932 in Fond du Lac. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1955 as an Airman on the USS Princeton, USS Wasp and USS Philippine Seas. He married Sharleen Center on October 17, 1953 at St. Patricks' church. A love story that started in 1st Grade at St. Patrick's school and continued on as they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2013. Larry was a devoted husband, loving father and extraordinary grandfather. He enjoyed a career spanning 33 years at Mercury Marine of Fond du Lac; a proud member of the Mercury Quarter Century Club. Larry was an avid Packer Fan and enjoyed all forms of sports in his younger years including softball, bowling, and golf. In his retirement years he swapped out his bowling shoes for trips to the casino with his wife. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and his hobbies included woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his family. He looked forward to the Faris Family Reunions which brought together many generations from across the country to celebrate the family heritage.He was preceded in death by his parents, Roman and Helen Rae Faris Sawyer, brother and sister- in-law Ronald and Jean Sawyer, brother Glen David Sawyer, his grandson infant Michael Matthew Witkowski and step granddaughter Tricia Mohammed.A life well-lived, Larry is survived by his wife and best friend, Sharleen, his children William (Nancy) Sawyer, Thomas (Susan) Sawyer, Nancy (David) Witkowski and Karen (Mark) Wuest. Grandchildren include Cameron and Mallory Sawyer, Shannon (Jacki) Storch, Courtney Storch, Jacob Witkowski (special caregiver), Lauren (Robert Biolo Fiancé) Wuest, Jordan Wuest, and step grandchildren April (Ray)Ryan, Matt Mohammed, Ashley and Courtney West. Great grandchildren, Vivienne and Alexandra Storch and Joshua Ryan. He is further survived by his sister- in-law Patricia Sawyer and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.Larry's family is grateful to the staff of both the Agnesian Cancer Care Center and Agnesian Hospice Hope. The hospice staff gave Larry wonderful, compassionate and loving care and assisted the family in caring for Larry which allowed him to remain at home until his passing.



A visitation for Larry will be held Sunday, January 19, 2014 from 1-5PM at the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave, Fond du Lac. In accordance with Larry's wishes, there will not be a funeral service. A private family committal service will be held at Chapel of the Risen Christ, Calvary Cemetery in Fond du Lac at a later date.
