August 9, 1934 — December 15, 2012

On August 9, 1934, the Lord blessed Otto and Esther (Mahnke) Maertz with the gift of a daughter, Lorraine, in Reedsville, WI. Ten days later, the Lord brought Lorraine into his family of believers through Holy Baptism. She attended St. John-St. James Lutheran School in Reedsville for grade school, and she publicly confessed her faith in Jesus as her Savior on her Confirmation Day, May, 16, 1948.While playing baseball as a child she earned the nickname, "Casey at the bat," a name which stuck with her through her adult years. Lorraine attended Reedsville High School for 9th grade and then Winnebago Lutheran Academy for the remainder of her high school years. In the fall after her high school graduation, she began teaching at Peace Lutheran School in Green Lake, WI, while pursuing her teaching certification through Dr. Martin Luther College. She also taught at Trinity Lutheran School in Neenah, WI, and St. Peter's Lutheran School in Fond du Lac. After taking time to raise her own children, she began teaching Kindergarten at Faith Lutheran School in 1980 where she stayed until her retirement in 1996. Lorraine considered teaching little children about their Savior to be a great privilege and opportunity. Four of her grandchildren were blessed to have her as a teacher. She was married to Delbert Waldschmidt on July 14, 1957. Much happiness ensued! The Lord blessed their marriage with six children, Dean (Julie), Steven, Carrie (Michael Struck), Richard (Susan), Jan (Michael Krug), and Paul (Beth). On Saturday, December 15, 2012, Lorraine, age 78, went home to her Heavenly Father after a ten-year battle with Alzheimer's disease.
