Margaret I. LaLuzerneMargaret I. LaLuzerne, 89, of 353 5th Street, died Thursday, October 20, 2005, at ManorCare Nursing Home where she had been undergoing rehabilitation. She was born June 12, 1916, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret Gundert Burck. She married John Altman in North Fond du Lac on April 11, 1936, and he preceded her in death on August 15, 1959. She later married Julius LaLuzerne of Green Bay in Dubuque, IA on June 27, 1961. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1996. Margaret attended Presentation Grade School and North Fond du Lac High School. She was employed as a foreman by Tolibia Cheese Company for 31 years, retiring in 1981. Margaret enjoyed camping, traveling, and going to casinos. Surviving is a son, John Altman, and a daughter, Janet (David) Schmidt, both of Fond du Lac, nine grandchildren, Dan (Pat) Schmidt of Fond du Lac, Linda Quartaro of Delafield, WI, Donna (Dave) Whealon, Vicki (Jim) Roberts, Bobbi Altman, Ricky Altman, Katie Leitz, and Jackie Krueger, all of Fond du Lac, and John (Kristine) Altman, Jr. of North Carolina, 24 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by two sisters-in-law, Marie Kropp and Dorothy Burke, both of Fond du Lac, nieces, nephews, and a special friend, Esther Hassman of Fond du Lac. Preceding her in death were her parents, two husbands, an "adopted" brother, Samuel Gundert, a brother, Earl J. Burke, a sister, Goldie Wittwer, a grandson, Randy Altman, a daughter-in-law, Sandy Altman, and a brother-in-law, Elmer Wittwer.



Private family services were held on Saturday, October 22, 2005, at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. Martin Koehler officiated and entombment was in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum. The family requests that memorials be directed to the Church of Peace.
