Marlin M. "Mert" Mauer

March 24, 1925 — August 19, 2008

Marlin M. Mauer, 83, of 436 Pine Tree Drive, Fond du Lac, died Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at his residence. He was born the son of Mathew and Catharine Halfmann Mauer on March 24, 1925 in Town of Marshfield. On January 31, 1953 he married Ruth R. Gratton at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fond du Lac. Mert was a veteran of US Navy from 1944 "“ 1946, serving in the Pacific during WWII and also a veteran of the US Army from 1949 "“ 1952 stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He was also a Sr. Instructor for the US Army Reserves. He was a Fond du Lac resident until 1954 when he moved to Waupun, then later moved to Oregon, WI in 1961 until moving back to Fond du Lac in 1993. Mert worked for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for 27 years retiring in 1980. He then worked 10 years for Holy Mother of Consolation Church doing grounds maintenance. Mert was a member of Holy Family Parish, Sacred Heart Church. He was a charter member of VFW Oregon-Brooklyn Post 10272, he enjoyed traveling in Europe and Germany, gardening, reading, fishing, gambling, was a huge St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan, and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.SURVIVORS: his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Lynette (Bill) Shaw, Tempe, AZ, Pamela (Mike) Grueul, Auburn, AL; three sons, James (Anne) Mauer, Oostburg, WI, Paul (Lilian) Mauer, Fond du Lac, Stan (Cheryl) Mauer, Elk Mound, WI; 11 grandchildren, Michael, Jessica and Clayton Greuel, Jennifer Glass, Matthew, Micah, Marcus and Moriah Mauer, Samuel Mauer, Aaron and Joanna Mauer; one sister, Delphine "Delly" Butz, St. Cloud; one sister-in-law, Mary Mauer, Fond du Lac; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Velma Lefeber, one brother, Walter Mauer.



VISITATION: will be from 4 "“ 8 PM on Friday, August 22, 2008 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 North Park Avenue, Fond du Lac and again on Saturday from 9 "“ 10 AM at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Holy Family Church, 271 4th Street Way, Fond du Lac. Cremation will follow the traditional services and inurnment will take place at Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery.Mert was a great family man, lover of baseball, patient man, especially coaching his children in baseball, very fair man, very proud patriotic man, lover of his country, and had a wonderful sense of humor.
