Mary E. Scharf

March 13, 1925 — April 16, 2014

Mary Elizabeth Scharf (nee Cook) 89, entered her heavenly home Wednesday, April 16, 2014. She was born March 13, 1925 in Senath, Missouri to the late Charles William Cook and Pearl Zora Farmer Cook Warnke. The Cook family with five children at that time moved to Wisconsin in 1928. Mary was confirmed at the Oakfield Methodist Church in Oakfield, Wisconsin, Palm Sunday 1938. She was the valedictorian of the 1942 graduating class of Oakfield High School. Mary attended the University Of Wisconsin School Of Nursing. She married Herbert Carl Scharf at Grace Lutheran Church, St. Petersburg, Florida. Herbert was stationed there with the U.S. Coast Guard. After the July 21, 1945 wedding, she returned to school. But World War II ended, so with Herb's discharge, she left school and moved to the Scharf Homestead on Hwy 175 to become a dairy farmer's wife. Mary really enjoyed learning the many challenges of living on a farm. She was an excellent housekeeper, gardener, and seamstress. Mary was very active in church work at St. Paul Lutheran in Brownsville and St. Peter Lutheran in Fond du Lac. Herb and Mary joined Good Shepherd in Fond du Lac and were active attendees at the Bible class. Mary worked outside the home at the Fond du Lac Country Court House from 1964 - 1987. She started at the County Clerk office and then became the deputy Clerk of Courts. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Herbert Scharf; five children, Philip (Marje), Erika Moldenhauer (John), Richmond (Connie), Edwin (Jill), and Mary Lynn Geelan (David); twenty-three grandchildren and thirty-five great grandchildren. Surviving siblings include William Cook, Idella, Charles Cook, and Pearl Jeanne Shupert. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Pearl Cook, one grandchild Heidi Scharf, brothers Lester Verne and Robert, and sisters Anna Lee, Ella Mae, and Charlotte. While her soul rests with her Savior in heaven, her earthly body awaits the resurrection on the last day.

Visitation will be Monday, April 21 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 855 Martin Avenue, Fond du Lac from 9 to 11 A.M. with her Christian funeral at 11 AM with the Rev's Brett Naumann and Matthew Reis officiating. Burial will follow in Brownsville Cemetery. Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Additional information and guestbook may be found at www.ueckerwitt.com
