Nick Janis

Nick Janis, 94 of Fond du Lac, passed away Friday morning December 26, 2014 at Hospice Home of Hope surrounded by his family. He was born on July 4, 1920 in Fond du Lac to Peter and Martha Karembetsos Ganacoplos, the fourth of a family of six children. He served in the US Navy during World War II and returned to his hometown of Fond du Lac where he married Joan Marie Schorr on August 5, 1950. He was employed with Giddings and Lewis Machine Tool Company for 37 years, then moving to California and was employed by Hughes Aircraft in El Segundo for a further seven years before retiring. Nick loved family, friends, fishing and a series of beloved cats, but especially his latest cat, Max. Everyone

around him enjoyed his incredible sense of humor all his life.



Nick is survived by his loving wife, Joan, son Timothy Michael and partner Jill Damm of Fond du Lac, Tracy Weber and her husband Terry of Adell, and Tina McMenamin and her husband Patrick of Sydney, Australia. Additionally, he is survived by three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one brother James of Palm Springs, CA, sisters-in-law Janice Elsinger of Lomira, Connie Janis of Wauwatosa, Helen Janis of Lake Havasu, AZ, a brother-in-law, Richard Taylor and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, three brothers, two sister-in-laws, and two brother-in-laws.



VISITATION: Friends may call on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 from 9:30 to 11:30 A.M. at the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. FUNERAL: Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 11:30 A.M. with Deacon Dale Paczkowski officiating. Cremation will follow the traditional services. Trier-Puddy American Legion Post #75 will conduct military services.



The family asks that any memorials be directed to Hospice Home of Hope, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, or a favorite charity.
