Olive M. (Schneider) Richter

November 11, 1920 — March 3, 2017

Olive M. (Schneider) Richter, 96, died Friday, March 3, 2017 at Serenity Circle, St. Francis Home in Fond du Lac. She was born at home in the Town of Forest (Mt. Calvary) on November 11, 1920, a daughter of Victor and Frances (Halfmann) Schneider. On October 4, 1939, Olive married Gerald Richter at St. Joseph’s Church in Fond du Lac. He preceded her in death on September 19, 1999, just fifteen days before their 60th wedding day celebration.



In 1945, Olive and Gerald moved to 50 W. 12th St. in Fond du Lac, spending 65 years in that little red brick house. Born on Veterans Day, she never received a card in the mail due to there not being mail service. From time to time, she would comment on this. Olive enjoyed reading, travel, baking, tending to her flower gardens, playing sheepshead, crocheting/knitting, and in her later years having breakfast with the “12th St. Oldies”. During the 1950’s, she worked part-time at night at Rudy’s Greenwood Grill. Beginning in 1960, Olive worked in the public-school lunch program. At her retirement in 1985, she was Supervisor of the School Hot Lunch Program having worked 25 years for the Fond du Lac Public School District.



Survivors include a son, David (Yvonne) of Green Lake and their children, Angelica (Jeffery) Aldred, Anna (Guy) Santelli, Paul (Jennifer) Richter and Andrea (Kevin) Mattison; a son, John (Kathleen) of Falls Church, Virginia and their son, Daniel Richter; a daughter, Kathryn “Kitty” (Lyle) Hansen of Fond du Lac and their children, Matthew (Kathy) Hansen, Lizbeth (Ryan Oesterreich) Hansen and Michael Hansen (Brittany Psensky); a foster son, Daniel (Marjorie) Beck of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 3 step-grandchildren, Justine (Mike) Kessler, Kate (Kevin) Laurent and Tom (Eileen) Harju; 15 great-grandchildren, Alexander and Breanna Aldred, Adrianna, Dominic and Mateo Santelli, Maysie, Alexis, Ethan and Haley Richter, Joshua and Quintin Mattison, Tate and Cali Richter, Caleb and Katelyn Hansen, and Finn and Max Oesterreich; 3 brothers, John (Marian), Alois (Bette) and Victor (Mary Lou); 3 sisters, Frances Stubbe, Mary White and Patricia Pittler; 3 sisters-in-law, Carol Schneider, Marie Schneider and Jeanne Richter; as well as many nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; her parents, Victor and Frances; mother and father-in-law, Edward and Katherine (Gerred) Richter; siblings, Marie (Oral) Krug, Gregor, Norbert (Evelyn), Robert, Ernest, Martha (Albert) Laudolff, an infant sister, Edward (Romilda), Anthony (Marlene), Leo and James (Judy); brothers and sisters-in-law, Willard Stubbe, Lee White, Robert Pittler, G. Marian Richter, Harold (Alma) Richter, B. Edward (Faith) Richter, Donald Richter, Harriet (Elmer) Franklin, Robert (Viola) Richter, Patricia Richter and William Richter.



In lieu of flowers, contributions to a memorial in Olive’s name are appreciated. A memorial is being established through the Fond du Lac Area Foundation.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Monday, March 6, 2017 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave. in Fond du Lac. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:45 AM on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at the St. Francis Home Chapel with Fr. Edward Sippel officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM and continue until the time of service. Burial in Calvary Cemetery will follow.



Olive’s family extends a thank you and is extremely grateful for the kind and compassionate care she received at the St. Francis Home Campus. The past six years she received this wonderful care while residing in St. Claire, St. Francis Terrace and finally, Serenity Circle. Also, thank you to her hospice team who cared for Olive during her last three days.
