Philip L. Perry

April 30, 1947 — August 10, 2022

Philip Lester Perry, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2022.

Philip was born on April 30, 1947 to Lester and Hortense (Schoepke) Perry. Phil lived for several years in Ashford but spent most of his growing years in Oakfield. He married Joan M. Thompson on October 3, 1981. They have resided in Fond du Lac since that time.

While living in Oakfield he started working for Irv’s Appliance after graduating from Oakfield High School in 1965. Irv taught Phil the electrical trade. In 1973 Phil took a job as an electrician in Plant #15 at Mercury Marine. He worked at Mercury until his retirement in 2009.

During his years in Oakfield, Phil was a member and director of the Oakfield Conservation Club, he was a charter member and director of the Oakfield Jaycees, where he taught BB gun safety classes and was very proud to be a member of the Oakfield Volunteer Fire Department. He was one of the first EMTs for the department. He was a member of the Fond du Lac Motorcycle Club and helped work a couple of the hill climbs they would have. He also taught some electrical classes at Moraine Park in Fond du Lac.

Philip was a past member of Ducks Unlimited and is a member of the NRA. He was currently a member of the Oakfield Area Historical Society where he helped in restoring the chapel at the Avoca Cemetery. He was a member of both the Van Dyne Sportsman’s Club and Wescot Sportsman’s Club. He took great pride in teaching gun safety to his children and his grandson. He was also a member of the Winnebago Woodworkers. Phil helped out at EAA the last few years working on the Warbirds Line Crew. His favorite experience was getting a ride in a B25 bomber.

Phil enjoyed meeting his fellow Mercury Retirees on Wednesday mornings for breakfast. During covid, many of the retirees continued to meet at Lakeside Park under a shelter. Phil was a big supporter of the Fond du Lac Symphonic Band, which his wife, Joan, played in. He helped out wherever and whenever he could. He was his wife’s biggest fan.

Philip is survived by his wife of almost 41 years, Joan; his daughter, Leslie (Jason) Manthey; his sons, Kristofor (Ryan Blomquist) Perry, Brett Perry and Travis (Theresa) Perry; his grandchildren, Wyatt and Ariana Manthey and Taryn Perry; two nephews, Michael Perry and Daniel Perry; his wife’s family, several cousins and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife’s parents and his brothers, David Perry and Robert Perry.
