Raymond P. Mcelhatton

Raymond Paul McElhatton, 96, of Fond du Lac, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Grancare Nursing Home. He was born May 14, 1917 in Moline, IL, the son of James and Christine (Gertsen) McElhatton. His young life was spent moving throughout Wisconsin and settling in Fond du Lac. He was a proud veteran. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and entered the service in October 1941 and was honorably discharged in September 1945. His rank was a Tech 4, attached to Btry. B, 413th, AAA Gun-BN Command. During his tour of duty he was in a number of campaigns including the European African Middle Eastern Theater and the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Raymond survived the Battle of the Bulge. He received three Bronze Battle Stars, four Overseas Stripes, one Service Stripe, a Good Conduct Medal and the American Defense Service Ribbon. During the war he fell in love and married his wife, Emily of 51 years. Raymond had an infectious love of life and a spirit that others loved. He was a quiet man with words, but not with his generous nature as he was always giving to others. Raymond's free time was spent first with his wife and daughters and always had room in his heart for others. He faced all of life challenges with courage and dignity.He is survived by two daughters, Janice (Neil) Rasmussen of Fond du Lac and Dawn (Thomas) Schultz of Appleton; three grandchildren, Lisa (Dave) Kraft of Fond du Lac, John (Lisa) Schultz of Appleton and Jona (Jeff) Donato of Neenah; his great grandchildren, Meghan and Emily Kraft, Sophia, Dylan, Abbigail Donato, Brandon and Samantha Schultz, Stephanie and Brittany McCrory; one brother, John (Mary Ellen) McElhatton of Kewaskum. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Emily; one grandson, Brian McCrory; three brothers, James, Lawrence and Ralph; four sisters, Margaret (Harvey) Backhaus, Gertrude (Earl) Kraft, Marie (Joseph) Stangl, and Marion (Orville) Peterman.



The visitation will be held 10:00 AM "“ 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home.
