Rev. Dr. Martin Karl Koehler

August 15, 1929 — June 29, 2014

Rev. Dr. Martin Karl Koehler, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died on June 29, 2014 at St Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee, WI. He was born on August 15, 1929 in Tripoli, Iowa to Rev. Karl and Irene (Hackman) Koehler. He graduated from Fond du Lac High School in Fond du Lac in 1947, and attended Lakeland College in Plymouth, WI and Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, IL where he earned his Doctor of Divinity degree. He served as associate pastor at Church of Peace, Fond du Lac, WI and Bethel Church, Byron, WI with his father before becoming senior pastor. He tirelessly served his church and his God throughout his 40 year ministry. He would make annual birthday calls and hospital visits for his parishioners leaving each with a flower, a prayer, and words of encouragement. His passion and zeal were unrivaled. Martin married Lavonne J. Hanke on July 27, 1957 at Church of Peace. They resided in Fond du Lac until 2008 when they moved to Cedar Community in West Bend, WI.

Martin was a kind and generous man who was dedicated to his wife and family. He loved spending time at his cabin in Neillsville, WI. hunting with his sons and grandsons. He loved gardening, was a crack shot, and he was one heck of a cribbage player. He was loved by many, and will be missed beyond measure.

He is survived by his wife, Lavonne; their three children, Mark (KayC) Koehler of West Bend, Kathryn (Robert) Platt of Fond du Lac, and Steve (Julie) Koehler of Milwaukee; four grandchildren, Karlee (Kyle) Flasch, Blake Koehler, Alexander Koehler, and Austin Koehler. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother Irma (Kitzman) Koehler; two brothers, William and Karl Koehler and a sister, Ruth Koehler.
