Richard C. Winkler

February 23, 1939 — October 23, 2016

Richard Carrol Winkler of Fond du Lac, at the age of 77, lost an all too short battle with cancer and with family at his side, went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 23, 2016. He was a devoted follower of Jesus who loved the Lord with all his heart, soul, mind and strength.

Born in Waupaca, Wisconsin, he was the firstborn son of the late Carrol and Beverly Winkler and Inspirational brother of Cheryl (Peter) Ziegler, Don (Carolyn) Winkler, and Candice (Marian) Harshner. For 58 years he was the loving and devoted husband of his high school sweetheart, Jean M. (Meyer) Winkler. He was the proud father of Greg (Vikki) Winkler of Florida, Pam (Scott) Henker of Maine and Todd (Jolene) Winkler of Middleton; Nurturing Grandpa of Bart (Nikol) Winkler, Brett Winkler, Brock (Angie) Winkler, Brent Winkler, Adam (Gina) Henker, Angie (Jon) Daiello, Jordan and Parker Winkler; Adoring Great Grampy of Louisa, Thomas and Camilla Henker, Maxwell, Graham and Everly Daiello, and Sophia Winkler (due in January).

Richard (Dick) served in the Army for his country from 1958 -1961 in Texas and Germany. He was employed by Copp’s Corporation of Stevens Point for 41+ years. During his years with Copps, he was transferred to other Copps Supermarkets. He managed Oshkosh Copps for 26 years, then came to Fond du Lac for 5 years, retiring at age 65. After retirement, Dick worked part-time at Holiday Inn doing the things that he loved; planting flowers, painting, decorating etc.

He lived in Waupaca, Stevens Point, Lacrosse, Madison, Manitowoc, and Fond du Lac.

He was active in the Southwest Rotary in Oshkosh, later belonging to Fond du Lac Noon Rotary. As a very active member of Trinity Baptist Church, he held many different positions of service as a lay person. His favorite was that of a greeter. He loved to talk to people, hear their stories and share what he had learned throughout his life.

He loved his Wisconsin sports: Packers, Brewers, Badgers and anything that involved his family!

Dick and Jean loved to travel and took many trips to other countries in addition to visiting their family. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were his pride and joy. Family meant everything to him.

All who know this man know of his love and devotion to God. This servant-hearted man was a sinner, saved by grace, who lived to reflect his Savior in all he did, tending to the needs of others above himself … every day. His selfless life and unconditional love was a beautiful picture of Christ. His was a life well lived in faith and obedience to God and a legacy to leave in the hearts of all those that have known and loved him.

This kind and caring man will be missed by ALL who knew him. When we lose someone we love, the memories become a treasure to hold and they will be cherished in our hearts forever until we meet again in heaven. We know he will be helping to get those gardens and mansions ready for us who have the hope and assurance that we WILL see him again as he will surely be one of heaven’s greeters. “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father except through Me” John 14:6
