Richard T. Ahner

Richard “Dick” T. Ahner, age 85, of Stoughton, died peacefully Sunday, September 5, 2021. He was born on May 6, 1936 in Fond du Lac, WI, the son of Charles William Ahner, Sr. and Genevieve (Ollerman) Ahner. He graduated from Fond du Lac High School in 1954 and headed on to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating with a degree in Business. During his time at UW Madison, Dick was a member of the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps and the UW Varsity Crew Team. He became an accomplished rowing athlete when his 1959 University of Wisconsin varsity crew team won the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championship title in Syracuse, NY.



Dick started his career in the stainless tank trailer business with the Heil Company in Milwaukee, WI. From there he moved to Madison where he worked for various companies in the industry throughout his career. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, fishing, golfing, attending UW Badger football games and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Dick was an active and well- respected member of the University of Wisconsin National “W” Club. He took great pride in his affiliation with the University of Wisconsin, organizing many golf outing fundraisers for the UW Athletic Dept. and attending various events in the community to support the University. Dick was a strong man, full of life, and always willing to lend a helping hand to his family and friends. He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren and cherished time spent with them. He loved sharing his life stories and experiences with family, friends, and others he met along life’s journey.



Survivors include his daughters, Stefanie (Todd) Alt, Kim (Peter) Freeman, and Kirsten (Bob) Davis; grandchildren, Megan (Yohann) Holzmann, Alyssa (Matt Breiby) Freeman, Kyle Freeman, Sophie Pitney, Katelyn Alt, and Kolbie Alt; great-granddaughter, Charlotte; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles W. Ahner, Jr.; twin-brother, Ronald Ahner; and numerous other family members.



Dick will be laid to rest at Rienzi Cemetery in Fond du Lac, WI, alongside his grandparents, parents and brother, Charles. The family will hold a private burial and graveside service to remember and honor this dedicated father and special man.
