Richard W. Mand

Richard W. Mand, age 62, of 14 Eastbrook Lane, Fond du Lac, died Saturday, October 13, 2007 at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee from Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. He was born on September 9, 1945 in Sheboygan, WI, the son of Wesley A. and Lydia G. Mand. On April 7, 1979 he married the love of his life, Terre L. Rasmussen, at Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church. Richard graduated from Sheboygan North High School in 1964 and from UW-Oshkosh in 1969 with a B.S. in Secondary Education. He was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity. He taught English and Creative Writing in the Fond du Lac School District for over 38 years, teaching at L.P. Goodrich High School, Fond du Lac High School, and the Fond du Lac Alternative High School.Richard was a well-respected leader and visionary for the Fond du Lac Education Association, Fond du Lac School District, teachers and students. He was a member of the Fond du Lac Education Association, the Wisconsin Education Council, and the National Education Association for his entire teaching career. He served as a Winnebagoland Uniserv Director for a number of years and Chief Negotiation Spokesperson for the Fond du Lac Education Association, representing teachers on regional and state-wide committees, with respect to teaching and learning. He was also a representative to the Wisconsin Education Association and National Education Association Representative Assemblies. Richard and Terre are members of Grace Reformed Church in Fond du Lac.He was an avid runner, active reader, basketball coach, and crossword puzzle enthusiast. He enjoyed attending sporting events with his sons, landscaping, and most of all spending time with his wife and children.He is survived by his wife, Terre, two daughters, Erika Mand, Houston, Texas, Stephanie Mand, Waukesha, and two sons, Tony and Adam Mand of Fond du Lac. He is further survived by one brother, Wesley (Karen) Mand, Anoka, Minnesota, and one sister, Gail (Kevin) Obremski of Milwaukee.



VISITATION: Friends may call on Tuesday October 16, 2007 from 3:30 to 8 p.m. at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, Fond du Lac. FUNERAL: Funeral services will be held Wednesday October 17, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Grace Reformed Church, 163 18th Street, Fond du Lac. Rev. Barry Vegter will officiate. Friends may call at the church from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday.A memorial is being established for the benefit of those battling cancer.
