Richard W. "Thunder" Karl Sr.

Richard W. “Thunder” Karl Sr, age 85, of Fond du Lac, died Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born on February 26, 1931 in Fond du Lac, the son of Louie and Mabel (Weeks) Karl. On June 17, 1958 he married Edna Ludkey in Fond du Lac. Thunder worked for forty-four years in the Water Department for the City of Fond du Lac. Thunder loved listening and dancing to polka music especially the Jerry Schneider Band. He was a member of Eagles Aerie #270. Everybody loved Thunder and he loved spending time with his family especially his great-grandson Cooper.



Survivors include his wife Edna of Fond du Lac; two children, Sue (Karl) Ziebert of Fond du Lac, Richard Karl Jr. of Green Bay; two grandchildren, Jenny (Logan Jones) Jorgensen of Fond du Lac, Laura (Mike Johnson) Jorgensen of Ripon; one great-grandson, Cooper; three siblings, James (JaLaine) Karl of Fond du Lac, John (Shirley) Karl of Fond du Lac, Katharine Drew of Fond du Lac; one brother-in-law, Ken Ludkey of Fond du Lac, sister-in-law, Suzie Balthazor of AZ; special family friend, Diane Keifenheim of Appleton; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant daughter, Julie Anne; one sister, Mary Karl; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Charles and Margaret Ludkey; one brother-in-law, Dennis Ludkey.



Visitation will take place on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Sacred Heart Church-Holy Family, 200 S. Peters Ave, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at the church at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Estabrooks Cemetery.
