Robert F. "Pete" Simon

March 22, 1927 — September 9, 2012

Robert (Pete) Frank Simon, 85, of Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, WI died on Sunday September 9, 2012 after a brief illness. Robert was born in Fond du Lac on March 22, 1927 to Michael and Rosa (Koenen) Simon; He attended St. Mary's Catholic School and Fond du Lac High School. Robert served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Robert worked at Simon Stone and Excavating as a heavy equipment operator until the time of his retirement. On October 21, 1977, he married Delores (Babe) Markheim Tabbert at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Eldorado, WI. She preceded him in death on July 16, 1992.Robert (Pete) made his home at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King for the past 12 years. Although retired, he kept busy helping where he was needed. His King family are going to miss his smiling face and contagious laughter. Robert (Pete) was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Fond du Lac, prior to moving to King. He was also a member of the VFW and American Legion. Robert (Pete) enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, golfing, bowling and playing baseball. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching the Brewers and Packers. When he wasn't able to be outside, he enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family and friends.Survivors include one daughter, Sandra (Alan) Diener, Fond du Lac; one sister, Natalie Basler, N. Fond du Lac; two brothers, Cyril (Athleen) Simon and Alex Simon, Fond du Lac; three step-daughters, Sandra (Jerome/Buzz) Beier, Neshkoro, Carol J. Kemnitz and Susan (Thomas) Langenfeld, Eldorado; and one step-son, Jesse (Joyce) Tabbert, Eldorado. Two grandchildren and 19 step-grandchildren, one great granddaughter and 38 step-great grandchildren; three sisters-in-I aw, Joan Simon, Mildred Simon, Rosendale and Florence Abbs, N. Fond du Lac and two brothers-in-law, Oscar Marggi, Fond du Lac and Marc (Nancy) Trott, Horicon; and many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ambrose and Francis; two sisters, Elvira (Ed) Dubberstein and Crescence Marggi; a son-in-law, Thomas Kemnitz; in-laws, Ralph Basler, Donald (Helen) Cutler, Howard Abbs, Walter (Eleanor) Schuppe, and Harold (Genevieve) Markheim.



Funeral services for Robert (Pete) will be held on Thursday September 13, 2012 at 6:00 P.M. at Uecker Witt Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 3:00 until the time of service. Private Internment will take place at Shrine of Rest Mausoleum Ledgeview Memorial Park. Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
