Robert H. Schmitz

Robert H. Schmitz, 86, of Mt. Calvary, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Villa Loretto Nursing Home. He was born on May 1, 1928 in Fond du Lac, the son of George and Julia (Schaefer) Schmitz. On October 1, 1949 he married Caroline Sabel at St. Patrick’s Church in Fond du Lac. She preceded him in death on July 2, 2013. Bob started farming early in his life in Brownsville before buying a farm in Johnsburg. While farming early on he also was a milk can hauler. Bob farmed for forty years. He won a National Corn Growing Contest in 1957. After retiring from farming, Bob worked part time for a carpentry contractor.



He was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Parish. He was previously a member of the Holy Name Society of Johnsburg. Bob enjoyed hunting, feeding his birds, playing sheepshead, polka music, bowling, snowmobiling, traveling, fishing, going to casinos and estate sales. Bob loved socializing with people. He was a jokester and always had a smile on his face. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.



SURVIVORS: eight children, Marie Schmitz of Fond du Lac, Theresa (Thomas) Theel of Johnsburg, Delores (Tabby) Kantala of Summerville, SC, Bernice (Lynn) Bub of Elkhart Lake, Robert Schmitz, Jr. of Ripon, Richard (Lori) Schmitz of Brothertown, Helen (Thomas) Lichtenwald of Fond du Lac, Roman Schmitz of Sheboygan; ten grandchildren, Angela (Scott) Boehning, Aaron (Soledad) Theel and Amber (Eric) Simon, Dmytro (Sharon) Kantala, Daniel (Krystal) Kantala, Talban Kantala, and Kenrick Kantala, Adam(Renee) Bub/Rozek, Alana (Jim) DeRouin, Justin Schmitz; seven great grandchildren; Daniel, Kaylen, Chloe, Isabella, Ethan, Addison, Emily, one brother, Anthony Schmitz; one sister, Evelyn Korb, two sisters in law, Evelyn Schmitz of Fond du Lac, Ludina Schmitz Mt. Calvary; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline; his parents; four siblings, Leo Schmitz, Viola (Jerome) Muellenbach, Elmer Schmitz, Mildred (Albert) Sabel, sister in law, Francine Schmitz, brother in law, Allen Korb.



Visitation: Monday, July 21, 2014 from 4-8 P.M. at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935 and on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 from 9-10 A.M. at Holy Cross Church-St. Isidore Parish, 308 S. County Road W, Mt. Calvary, WI. Mass will follow at the church at 10:00 A.M. with the Reverend Gary Wegner officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter Parish Cemetery in St. Peter.
