Robert N. Dilling

May 6, 1930 — June 7, 2010

Robert Nelson Dilling, 80, of 385 18th Street, died Monday, June 7th 2010 at St. Agnes Hospital with his family by his side, following a courageous battle with cancer. Robert was born May 6, 1930, in Fond du Lac, the son of the late Gilbert and Elizabeth Dilling. He graduated from L.P. Goodrich High School in 1948 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Bob was employed at Blakely Auto Parts for 47 years as an auto machinist. He married Caroline Beyer on June 2, 1956, at Immanuel Trinity Lutheran church in Fond du Lac. The two of them raised five sons together. Bob was a man of great integrity, which rubbed off on his sons and grandchildren. Bob and Caroline took great enjoyment in being around their family, their sons, daughter-in-laws, and grandchildren; they meant the world to him. He looked forward to playing sheepshead with family whenever he had the chance (Sunday night cards was a must!) and his Friday night card club. He truly possessed a love of gardening, shown by his thriving garden in their back yard, and his beautiful display of flowers every spring and summer. Bob also enjoyed woodworking, hunting, and fishing. He was looked up to by many and will be sadly missed by all.Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Caroline, five sons, Jeff (Lori), Gary (Julie), Steve (Barb), Allen (Mary Ann), and John (Jennifer) all of Fond du Lac. 14 grandchildren, Jack (Rene) Hartman, Joe and Jim Dilling; Nicholas and Katelyn Dilling; Elizabeth, Matthew, and Mark Dilling; Alex, Devin, and Josh Dilling; and Jacob, Zachary, and Olivia Dilling and four great-grand children Karlina Hartman, Raelynn Hartman, Jadenn Hartman, and Emmalie Hartman. One brother Stanley (Marge) Dilling, two sister-in-laws Patricia Dilling and Jane VonRotz and one brother-in-law Charles VonRotz all of Fond du Lac and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, Gilbert and Elizabeth Dilling; his brothers Milton Dilling, Jacob Earl Dilling; his sister Ruth (Dilling) Anderson and brother-in-law Harold Anderson and his sister-in-law Dolores Blonigen; his mother-in-law Carol (Knutson) Beyer and father-in-law Herbert Beyer, his first wife, Evelyn (Kilmer) Dilling and their infant daughter Deborah.
