Rose Esther Birschbach

May 18, 1937 — March 2, 2021

Rose Esther Birschbach, age 83, formerly of Mt. Calvary, passed away at the Woodlands on March 2, 2021. Rose was born on May 18, 1937, daughter of Anton and Rosalia (Wehner) Nett. On September 29, 1954, she married Eugene Birschbach at St. Mary's Church in Marytown. Rose always said she "picked a good one," and she and Eugene were blessed with 59 years of marriage.

Rose had a strong German work ethic and was a devoted wife and mother. For many decades, she worked alongside Eugene in operating their century farm and then continued to oversee the farm's management following Eugene's passing in 2013. Rose valued the tradition of hosting family gatherings at the farm and was an excellent cook and baking mentor. She spent much time lovingly preparing many delicious meals in her large farm kitchen, and she was well known for serving generously-sized dessert portions. Family was central to Rose's heart. She further enjoyed genealogy research, concerts at Buttermilk Creek Park, watching westerns, playing bingo, word searches, and listening to old polka tunes, especially those by Romy Gosz. In recent years, Rose also came to value the special friendships she developed at the Woodlands.

Rose is survived by her children, Debbie (Dennis) Schneider of St. Peter, Patty (Mike) Schneider of Malone, Bonnie (Rick) Schmitz and Cheryl (CT) Field, all of Fond du Lac; Gerald (Sherry) Birschbach of Townsend; son-in-law, Allen Schmitz of Pipe; twelve grandchildren: Phil (Kelly) Schmitz, Jess (Eric) Muench, Chris (Jennie) Schneider, Nathan (KateLynn) Schneider, Tim (Jen) Schneider, Aaron (Melissa) Schneider, Tom Schmitz, David Schmitz, Jaryd Schmitz, Logan Field, Brittany (Justin) Patt, and Carissa Birschbach; seventeen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Birschbach; and many nieces and nephews.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene and daughter, Mary Ann--both of whom she missed dearly; two sisters, Lily Beck and Lyla Karls; two brothers, Jerry and Donald Nett; and sisters- and brothers-in-law: Owen Beck, Roger Karls, Florence Nett, Martha (Harold) Petrie, Alice (John) Wurtz, Germaine (Leander) Sabel, Harold (Marcella) Birschbach, James (Joan) Birschbach, Lester Birschbach, Nelson (Dolly) Birschbach, and Joan (Jerome) Diederichs.

Rose was a member of Saint Isidore Parish in Mt. Calvary. Due to COVID-19 safety concerns, a private funeral service will be held with interment at Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park in Fond du Lac. If desired, memorials may be directed to Agnesian Hospice Care. The family extends heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the kind caregivers and special residents at the Woodlands and to Agnesian Hospice Care.
