William E. Preston

William "Bill" Ernest Preston, 85, died peacefully at the Hospice Home of Hope on Friday, March 1, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born August 16, 1927 in Redgranite, WI. His parents were married in England in 1909 and immigrated to Redgranite shortly after. Bill's father was a skilled stonecutter and his mother was trained as a ladies tailor, a skill she never cared for. Bill was educated in Redgranite public schools and received his Bachelor's degree in Education from U.W. Oshkosh. He continued life-long learning through seminars, reading and travel. Bill served in the U.S. Army from October 1945 to May 1947 and an additional four years in the Army Reserve. On June 23, 1956 he was united in marriage to Beverly Bochek at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Door County. Bill taught for two years in Oakfield, WI and seven years in Cashton, WI. He then spent 28 years teaching Social Studies at Mayville High School. He served on many community and educational committees until and after his retirement in 1990. Bill felt strongly that all honest labor should be respected.Bill is survived by his wife, Beverly; six children, Ann (Mike) Sorgent, Mary Preston, Andrew (Cele) Preston, Carol Preston, Sharon (Kurt) Hoefert and John (Patty) Preston; seven grandchildren, Marcus (Amy) Sorgent, Amber Sorgent, Holly Sorgent, Ashley (Josh) Coleman, Karissa Preston, Garrett Preston and Joe Hoefert; two great grandchildren, Ramone Sorgent-Carrington and Miles Sorgent; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Annie Preston; two sisters, Edna Purnell and Connie McCabe; one grandchild and three nephews.



The visitation will be held from 4:30 "“ 7:30 PM on Monday, March 4, 2013 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and again on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 "“ 11:00 AM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Holy Family Church, 271 4th Street Way, Fond du Lac. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery.While Bill loved flowers, he felt they should be given to the living. Therefore, in lieu of flowers donations can be made to your local public library or the Fond du Lac Historical Society.The family wishes to thank the caring staff of St. Agnes Hospital and Hospice Home of Hope for the care and compassion given to Bill and his family.
