Agnes M. Gores

Agnes M. Gores, 86, of 315 Maple Avenue, Fond du Lac, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at Hospice Home of Hope. She was born on January 24, 1918, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Victor and Arpa Mirtz Schroeder, and graduated from Fond du Lac Senior High in 1936. After high school, she enrolled at the Milwaukee Accredited School of Beauty Culture and received a license in cosmetology. On April 29, 1939, she married Willard "Jake" Gores at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fond du Lac. In her youth she spent many happy summers on Green Lake where her parents owned a home. Agnes played the piano and organ and instilled a love for music in her children. She was an avid golfer, a former member of South Hills Country Club, an excellent swimmer, and enjoyed all sports. She loved books, art, movies, and was a long-time member of the Green Thumb Garden Club.Surviving are her husband, Jake of Fond du Lac; one son, John of Fond du Lac; three daughters, Ann (Bob) Somers of Ripon; Mary (Larry) Gores-Williams and Katie Baker, both of Fond du Lac; her brothers, Howard (Shirley) Schroeder of Berlin, and Alfred (Helen) Schroeder of Fond du Lac. She is further survived by eight grandchildren; Nancy Gores, Michael (Jill) Barker, John Somers, Melissa (Brian) Schmidt, Tanya (Jason) Schmidt, Katie Williams, Carissa Baker, and Hayley Baker. Also surviving are two great-grandchildren, Lily Anne Barker and Keagan Schmidt, and nieces and nephews. Her parents, and two brothers, Gordon and Victor Jr, preceded her in death.



According to her wishes, private services were held at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home on Friday, March 26, 2004. The Rev. Robert A. Fictum officiated and burial was in St. Charles Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be directed to Hospice Homecare.
