Albert H. Green, 88, of Fond du Lac and currently residing in Markesan, died Sunday, November 7, 2021, at the Ripon Medical Center in Ripon. He was born in Almond, Wis., on January 17, 1933, to Royal and Leona (Schumitsch) Green. On May 16, 1960, Albert married Nancy Eckert in Fond du Lac. Nancy preceded him in death on January 23, 2018.
Albert was a veteran of the US Army. His military career began in 1950 at Fort Benning, Ga. During his 9 years enlisted Albert was a cook, construction foreman, and parachute rigger. He earned the Army’s Glider Badge, Parachutist Badge “Jump Wings”, Sharpshooter Badge with both Carbine and Rifle clasps, and was awarded both the National Defense Service Medal and Army of Occupation Medal with “Germany” clasp. Albert was a truck driver, avid hunter, and loved to fish. He took countless trips to Alaska and enjoyed gardening, playing cards, occasionally gambling, puzzles, dancing, bowling, and spending time with family. During his lifetime Albert participated in many activities with the VFW and Wings Over Wisconsin.
Survivors include his stepson, David Miller; stepdaughter, Crystal Marks; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his great-great grandson, Albert R. Appleby. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife; his daughter, Kerry L. (Green) Hoekstra; and his brother and sister.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Friday, November 19, 2021, at St. Paul’s Cathedral, 51 W. Division St. in Fond du Lac with a memorial service beginning at 12:00 PM. Burial in Rienzi Cemetery will follow the service with Military Funeral Honors rendered by the US Army. Cremation has taken place.
