Alice M. Petrie

March 13, 1932 — October 22, 2025

Heaven gained an angel as Harold was reunited with his bride. Alice M (Buechel) Petrie, 93, formerly of 414 Indiana Ave, North Ford du lac, passed away peacefully at Hospice Home of Hope. They made their home at the above address their entire 57 years of married life.

Alice was born at home on the family farm in Malone, on Sunday the 13th of March, 1932, during the depression, the daughter of Agnes (Schneider) and Henry Buechel. Her birth completed the boy/ girl birth pattern. Her 8th grade graduation completed her formal schooling but not her learning. On Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1952, she married her soulmate, Harold A. Petrie at Holy Trinity Church, Jericho. Harold preceded her in death on June 25, 2010.

In her 93 years, she was a stay at home, of seven children, mom with energy, patience, and a work ethic as large as her servant’s heart. Titles of wife, mom, then grandmother and great-grandmother were her greatest accomplishments. Alice had many talents, especially gardening and cooking. Baking was a daily routine. Her holiday fruit cakes were a popular request as well as her monthly themed cut out sugar cookies. Alice’s reputation as a giver was known town wide. She had the ability to cook enough for her large family, and turned no an itinerant away. She insisted on serving them a hot, sit-down meal and would send a brown bag along for later. No one went hungry, not even the squirrels. They were plump as they benefited from the hickory nut remains. As an expert gardener she canned everything for tornado season and winter use. Presentation school food service department and the parish fall festival were recipients of bushels and bushels of beets and other fresh surplus produce. Understanding the value of the dollar, everything served more than one purpose. She reduced, reused and recycled long before it gained in popularity.

Alice is survived by her six children, Sandra O’Loughlin, Thomas (Julie) Petrie, Debbie (Steve) Schumacher, Laurie (James) Kampa, Christine (Tony Killinger) Jones, and Kathryn Petrie; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren with #18 due in February of 2026; and 4 step great grandchildren. She is further survived by a sister-in-law, Betty Petrie; daughter-in-law, Therse Petrie; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Alice in death are her husband, Harold; parents, Agnes and Henry Buechel; son, Richard; siblings Leander Buechel, Viola Schmitz, Clarance Buechel, Romilda Schneider, Ambrose Buechel; In laws, Alfred and Acella (Reider) Petrie, Loyd Petrie, Margeret Buechel, Lester Schmitz, Ed and Marie Schneider, Marian Buechel and Valerie Buechel.
