Allen C. Sehloff

June 30, 1927 — December 17, 2023

Allen Carl Sehloff was called to his eternal rest on Sunday, December 17, 2023.  Our Lord Jesus took him home for Christmas!  Allen was born on June 30, 1927, in the town of Gibson, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, to Albert and Leona (Marquardt) Sehloff.  He was baptized at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Mishicot, Wisconsin, in July of 1927.  He attended Jambo Creek Elementary School, was confirmed in the Christian faith in September of 1940, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, and graduated from Mishicot High School with the class of 1944.

On April 23, 1949, he was united in marriage to Doris Handl, the daughter of Andrew and Gertrude (Labinski) Handl of Manitowoc, Wisconsin.  The ceremony was held at the St. Peter parsonage, Mishicot, and officiated by the late Pastor Edward Zell.

Allen worked at the Mishicot Lumber Company and at the Gerl Home Lumber Company in Manitowoc from 1949 to 1962.  He was Assistant City Assessor, City of Manitowoc, from 1962 to 1970.  In 1970, he was hired by the State of Wisconsin to work as a state assessor for east central Wisconsin.  He moved his family to Fond du Lac and worked out of that district office until his retirement in 1989.

Allen was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fond du Lac.  He served faithfully there as a member of the church council and as chairman of the congregation.  He served on building committees for both Faith Lutheran Church and Winnebago Lutheran Academy.  He enjoyed woodworking and constructed many beautiful pieces of furniture that graced his home and the homes of his children.  He truly appreciated the times his family would gather for milestones in life, and was always happy to play sheepshead with his sons and grandchildren.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws; by his brother, Ellsworth; sister-in-law, Judith; niece, Ginny Lynn; nephew, Ronald; and by his wife, Doris.  He is survived by his sons, James (Sandra) and Jerel (Barbara), of Manitowoc, WI, David (Kerry) of Malone, WI, Allen of Lake Elmo, MN, Peter (Sarah) of Appleton, WI, and John (Kari) of Mankato, MN.  He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.  He is further survived by a sister, June Weyenberg of Lakeland, FL; sister-in-law, Barbara Krueger of Green Bay, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 55 N. Prairie Road, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935, on Thursday, December 28, 2023, with visitation from 9:00 – 11:00 AM and service at 11:00 AM.  Inurnment will be held at a later date.  Memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church or Winnebago Lutheran Academy.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled.  You believe in God; believe also in me.  My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”  John 14:1-3
